Update notification displays over the unlock screen

Hi all!

I'm a dinosaur with a 1Password vault in Dropbox but I've been playing with the 1Password 6 beta in a Windows 10 VM (just opening my 1P vault in read-only mode). I've noticed that after a new version of 1Password is released, when I open the program it displays the "A new version is available. Click here to learn more" message on top of the vault unlock screen. If you actually click on the message, nothing appears to happen. However, after unlocking 1Password, the Updates tab of the Options window is displayed.

It would be better if the update notification were suppressed until the vault is unlocked.

The new version of 1Password appears to be coming along nicely! Keep up the great work!

1Password Version: 6.5.398
Extension Version: 4.6.4.3
OS Version: Windows 10 version 1703
Sync Type: Dropbox

Or if you could update the app without unlocking, I would actually prefer that

  • Hey you two.

We are already thinking of how to improve the updater and I've added your comments to our internal discussion.

If you have more feedback, please keep it coming.

    Cheers,

    Alex

No feedback from me, but just want to +1 to burn123's suggestion of being able to update the app without unlocking.

It's something I miss from 1Password 4, where I think it was possible. It just cuts out a login step, so I don't have to login, update, then login again to get to my passwords. Thanks :+1:

  • Hi guys,

We are going to improve this. Right now, we've went through two separate installer/updater tools to find the one that works for us and we believe we did. So, the next step is to integrate it deeper with the app and potentially also offer an advanced option to do automatic updates alas Chrome style. We dislike the silent update option but we may start to offer it as an advanced option instead.

The current blue banner you see was based on the original installer that would open and update the app without the unlock process.
