I have PC desktop version 6.6.439. There's no option to change my master password
I've looked everywhere and searched all related questions. As far as I can tell, in the new version, the option to change my master password has disappeared. It's not under Options > Security, or Options > Advanced (where it used to be). It doesn't make a difference if I change vaults or even if I completely log out and log back in. I even tried uninstalling on this computer and re-installing and am stuck with the same master password. Help!

Hi @blumtwo,
Thank you for the reaching out! :+1:
We have removed this feature in the last version of 1Password for Windows to avoid the confusion (since it changed the local Master Password only). If you want to change the password for your account, please follow these steps:
1) Sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
2) Click your account name in the top right corner and choose My Profile.
3) Click Manage > Change Master Password.Let me know if it helps. Thank you!
Cheers,

@Greg Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this has left me in a strange situation. I am signed in on two different computers through the desktop software. Each computer has a different local master password that is different from the master password that is set on my account as a whole (the one that works when I log in online).
You've removed the ability to change the local master password, but then how do I sync my desktop and laptop with my online master password? Again, I've tried everything, but even with all accounts removed and re-installing the software, the local master password survives.
Help!

Hi @blumtwo, sorry for the troubles!
Is it possible that you are having the same issues as Manaburner in a neighbour thread here? It sounds really similar, so if your issue is the same, please follow Brenty's advice:
Make sure of two things:
1) You have the latest version of 1Password installed
2) You have all of your data in your account at 1Password.comThen just follow the instructions here to start over in the app so you can set it up with your account from scratch:
Reset 1Password
Let me know if it helps. If I am off the mark here, do not hesitate to bring it up in your reply. Thank you! :+1:
Cheers,

I'm disappointed this feature has been removed. Please consider addressing user confusion related to "Change Master Password" feature in a way other than removing it - it was a useful feature.
For example, if you are a member of multiple teams (which I am) the way 1password defaults to using the "master password" of the first team you signed into as the local master password when setting up 1password desktop on a new computer is also confusing (and irritating, frankly).
Also, on the computer I changed the local master password on before you removed this feature still uses that local Master Password...but now I can't change it. Brilliant. It won't matter what I change the master password to on 1password.com unless I remove the account and deal with the always pleasant sign-in feature that requires typing in the secret key because you also removed the feature to scan a QR code from the Windows version.
There is a lot that is confusing about 1password on Windows - simply removing useful features isn't improving the confusing product that is 1Password on Windows. :-(

Hey @zaxmyth!
Please consider addressing user confusion related to "Change Master Password" feature
I will be perfectly frank with you and say that I ... strongly dislike ... the way Master Password changes work on Windows right now. At the moment the button was removed, I still think it was necessary. Folks were getting locked out of their accounts entirely because they thought they changed their Master Password when they didn't and that's not something we can help them recover from. The existing confusion is still not good, but we can fix it so it's better than the alternative. We're already in the process of reworking this workflow and, while I can't say when it will put in an appearance, it's definitely a top priority.
you also removed the feature to scan a QR code from the Windows version.
You can still scan your Setup Code. From 1Password.com:
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
- Click your account name in the upper right-hand corner and select Get the Apps.
- Drag your Setup Code from your browser to any field in the sign-in screen.
You can also right-click the Setup Code either on the Get the Apps page or your Emergency Kit and select Copy. Select Scan Setup Code in 1Password 6 for Windows, and choose From clipboard ... to fill your sign-in details.
The latter will always work on 1Password.com, but I know some PDF readers don't allow copying images. The free version of Adobe Acrobat works for me, but your mileage may vary a bit. If nothing else, I hope this tidbit serves as a silver lining. Feel free to reset 1Password on the devices with the wrong Master Password without ever typing your Secret Key and we'll keep working to make the workflow to change your Master Password on Windows better. :chuffed:
