Please don't move these to email. I'm having the same problem and now I don't benefit from your help.

  • Hi @MiltonVanderslice

Thanks for taking the time to write in. We've compiled all of the Dropbox troubleshooting steps that we're able to help with here:

If you're having trouble syncing with Dropbox

I hope that helps! Please let us know how it turns out.

@Ben, it didn't help. The fix was found in another thread. The help faq that you referenced doesn't cover the solution of moving the vault out of the root path of Dropbox and into a /Apps sub-folder.

I'm glad to hear you found a solution, @MiltonVanderslice! Thanks for following up here to let us know how it all turned out. It sounds like you were actually experiencing a bit of a different problem than the one from the other thread where you originally posted (although some of the symptoms were similar).

There are a few reasons why the steps that worked for you are not included in our troubleshooting guide. This is a new issue we just started hearing about recently, and we don't know too much about it yet. In fact, we're not even sure yet if this is a bug in 1Password or Dropbox. But bugs are temporary since they can be fixed, and the troubleshooting article focuses more on configuration issues that can happen regardless of bugs.

In case you're curious, it's not actually necessary to move the sync file to a subfolder within Dropbox/Apps/. The problem isn't with any one location in the Dropbox folder, as we've seen this happen when the sync file is located in many different Dropbox subfolders. What seems to fix it is the act of moving it at all. For example, if you move that sync file back to the root level of your Dropbox folder and re-enable sync, it should work. We've also suggested moving the sync file out of Dropbox completely, and then back into the same folder as before, and that also works. Somehow, that seems to trigger something in Dropbox that allows the sync file to be found.

Anyway, I just thought you might be interested to know a few more details. Now that it's working for you again, it should continue to work correctly. But if you run into more problems or have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know. Cheers! :)

@Drew_AG Interesting. Thanks for the details. That's very helpful. It wouldn't be as big of a deal had I not made 1Password such a core part of my life.

  • On behalf of Drew you're most welcome! Glad to hear that you were able to find a solution, and that 1Password has proven to be valuable for you. If there's anything else we can do please don't hesitate to let us know!
