Where is PIN access for Windows 1P?

I can't enter a 30-character master password every time I need to access 1P. I also don't see how extending the time before 1P locks is helping my security. And furthermore, there's no way to choose a reasonable time frame, like "weekly" or "bi-weekly" - it's' either 12 hours or "never."

The feature still exists in my laptop install, meaning that it somehow was grandfathered in despite that app having been updated.

Windows itself has an option to login with a PIN. I'm stumped by such a glaring loss of functionality.

  • @manfrommars: I'm sorry you're finding unlocking 1Password to be a hassle. 1Password 6 has never truly supported PIN unlock, but did previously have the option to set a shorter Master Password for the app without changing your account Master Password. We ultimately removed this functionality as it was leading to a significant number of folks erroneously believing they changed their account Master Password and getting locked out of their account when they forgot their old one and tried to reinstall 1Password. If you used the Change Master Password button in the app to change your Master Password to a PIN before it was removed on your laptop, that setting would persist in your local database. All of that said, I definitely sympathize with the desire for a quicker way to unlock and will happily pass along your feedback to the team.

On the subject of security, auto-lock is really only meant to protect an untended local device if you walk away and forget to lock 1Password. In the case of a device in a public place like your work, there is definitely good cause to keep that timer short. In the case of a home PC, presumably your worries are less. Ultimately, 1Password will always lock when you lock your PC or following a reboot, so if you don't leave your PC running for an extended period, you may find a longer time frame on auto-lock to be less useful. All the same, I'll let the team know you'd like to see longer auto-lock time frames as well.

Thanks for sharing your feedback and, if you have any other ideas to make unlocking 1Password easier, but still safe, we're all ears. :chuffed:
