1Password button on Firefox add-on unresponsive [Update the browser, extension, and switch to NM]
The 1P button is displayed, and not greyed out, it's just unresponsive. Firefox 1P add-on auto-updated today to 4.6.9. 1P still works fine in Chrome. Just to make sure Firefox was up-to-date, I upgraded to latest: ESR 52.2.1. No effect to fix problem.
1Password Version: 4.6.1.620

Hi there @cinchent,
Sorry for the troubles with 1Password!
First of all, could you please check what you have enabled in 1Password 4 > Help > Advanced? Do you have checkmark next to Websocket or Native Messaging?
I would also like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your PC, where you have this issue in Firefox:
Sending Diagnostics Reports (Windows)
Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+windows@agilebits.com.
Please do not post your Diagnostic Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your report in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Suapport ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)
Thank you very much in advance! I will be looking forward to your email.
Cheers,

Same problem with 4.6.9 update on Mac with Waterfox 54.0.1. Worked fine yesterday. Grayed out today. Chrome and Safari still OK.

Same Problem in Win10 with OnePassword Version 4.6.1.620 and FF Ver. 55.0 (32bit)

Ubuntu 17.04, Win7, FF 54.0.1, 55.0, 4.6.1.625, 4.6.9.
Seems, multiprocess was't easy.0 -
Sorry for the hiccup there! Most folks won’t notice, but a fairly large change has happened with 1Password to support browser integration going forward behind the scenes, so you will need to be on the latest version of 1Password, the browser, and extension for all of them to be compatible with each other. So just install the latest browser, 1Password, and extension releases so they can all talk to each other:
https://firefox.com
https://1password.com/downloads/
https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensionsThat should do the trick for you, but be sure to let us know if you encounter any further issues! :)

@AN124: I'm not sure how Ubuntu is related, but you definitely need to be running Firefox 55, 1Password 4.6.1.625, and the 4.6.9 extension. It looks like you're good on the last two counts, but restarting Windows should make sure that there isn't anything hung up with any of these. Let me know how you get along!

@boehmenkircher: You need to update to the latest version of 1Password 4 and the extension, which support Native Messaging in both Firefox and Chrome:
https://app-updates.agilebits.com/product_history/OPW4
https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensionsYou'll likely need to restart Windows afterward, but that should do it for you. Let me know how it turns out! :)

@PasswordBloke: Just to confirm, this is the Windows category of the forums. Are you using a Mac? You need to update to the latest version of 1Password, Firefox, and the extension, which all support Native Messaging:
https://1password.com/downloads/
https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensionsLet me know if that helps! :)

Just upgraded Win7 FF to 55.0. Now it works.
Ubuntu FF doesn't want to upgrade by itself, it's still 54.0.1, the extension doesn't work.
Both OS's got 1P 4.6.1.625. Ubuntu with Wine, of course.Summing up, FF 4.6.9 extension only works with 1P 4.6.1.625 and only in FF 55.

Hi, After reading the "update" blog, I remembered seeing "websockets" vs "native messaging". On win10, click on Help, Advanced, and click the "use native messaging" box. Works after a restart of the app. Hopefully they include this in the next update automagically...

I'm having the same issue, browser extension is in toolbar but does nothing when clicked. Yesterday (8/7/17) all was working, today it's not. I've updated Firefox to 55, tried both 64- and 32-bit, 1Password is current 4.6.2.625, browser extension is current 4.6.9, tried multiple restarts....
Aha! Just went back and re-read this thread:
"First of all, could you please check what you have enabled in 1Password 4 > Help > Advanced? Do you have checkmark next to Websocket or Native Messaging?"That did it! Enabled Native Messaging and I'm back in business.
Now if I could just get that hour of my life back... I do think this update could have been handled more gracefully. Perhaps 1P could attempt to switch itself over to Native if WebSocket fails. I'm a technical user and this was not obvious to me at all.

@AN124: Ah, gotcha. You're using 1Password 4 under Wine. I can't say this is something we've tested with the new approach using Native Messaging. It may well be that this doesn't work under Wine since it depends on .Net to some extent, and as far as I know that doesn't run under Wine. You could try using an older version of the extension, but that can be problematic since Firefox will try to update it itself. Technically we introduced this in 4.6.1.624 with Chrome, but the new Firefox Web Extension compatible with this just shipped this week. Glad to hear it's working for you on Windows now after updating at least!

@brenty: Whoops! Yes, Mac user. Sorry! Google search brought me here and cinchent's post chimed. Anyway, fixed problem by downgrading extension and turning off Automatic Updates. Would be great if Agilebits could warn users when these silent updates are going to break their systems. Thanks.

@PasswordBloke: No problem at all. Just wanted to make sure we're on the same page! Similarly, if you update to the latest versions of Firefox, 1Password, and the extension, there's no need to downgrade and you won't experience any issues going forward as Firefox transitions to Web Extensions only. This isn't something we have control over (especially Firefox updating the extension in the background), so we're being proactive in making sure 1Password is ready well in advance to avoid things breaking — which is why we released updates to the apps with support for this last month.

I too had an issue with the 1Password not working after updates. When Firefox and 1Password both updated today the extension ceased to work. I verified Firefox, 1Password and the 1Password extension were all current versions. I had to go in and manually switch from Web Socket to Native Messaging. It works normal now that I did that.

Thanks for the information, brenty, Greg, and others. I upgraded 1Password to 4.6.2.625 and Firefox again today to 52.3.0 (I'm on the ESR update channel, not the mainline, so that's the latest available). Now the 1P browser 4.6.9 add-on is responsive again. I'm using native messaging, not WebSockets, although to be thorough I tested with the latter and it works fine using that middleware layer too. Problem solved. Cheers!

Hello @jshep321,
We moved your reply from Mac to Windows category. I hope you will forgive us. :)
Your are completely correct in your reply, switching to Native Messaging should work (if you have all the latest versions of 1Password, browser, and the extension installed). Please see my reply above if you want to know what Native Messaging is.If there is anything else we can help you with, let us know. Thank you!
Cheers,
