1Password launches on login
Hey folks,
I keep seeing the main 1Password window when I login to my machine. Is this a known issue?

Hi @kop48,
Thanks for writing in.
Are you saying it shouldn't be launching at all or it should be minimized? There's a setting in 1Password if it should launch or not upon signing in to Windows.
If it should be minimized, what 1Password and Windows versions are you using? I just tested this and cannot reproduce it yet.

I have the latest beta. I'm on Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update (16299) Insider Build. 1Password is configured to launch on startup, but there's no option about whether it should be minimised or not:

Hi @kop48,
I have the latest beta. I'm on Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update (16299) Insider Build.
That's what I have and I cannot reproduce this. The latest Windows 10 Insider builds do have a bug where it can launch apps that was running prior to the shutdown but I've never seen it does this to 1Password and I just tested this, it didn't show its main window.
Can you try unchecking and checking that option and reboot, see if it does anything.
Just to be clear, you're running 1Password 6.8.466?

No worries, I'll check. Yup - that's the version that I have.

Tried it, machine upgraded to a new build, and it launched at startup again...

Hi @kop48,
That's really strange.
Can you right-click on 1Password icon in the notification to select Exit.
Now, bring up the Run dialog via
Windows Key + R
, enter the following:%LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password\app\6\AgileBits.OnePassword.Desktop /silent
Can you tell me what happens?
/silent
means to minimize it to the notification tray.0 -
You had the '6' and 'app' the wrong way around in the path. :)
When I launch the app, the window appears briefly and then minimizes.
Is it worth modifying the launch parameters for the process so that the window never shows?

Hi @kop48,
Thanks, I've selected the wrong clipboard content and I've updated it.
When I launch the app, the window appears briefly and then minimizes.
That is to be expected for the moment as we have to render it for a few seconds to fix an unrelated issue in the latest beta builds. It will be hidden properly in a future beta update.
So, if you ran it manually, it works but it doesn't work the same way when you boot up?
Is it worth modifying the launch parameters for the process so that the window never shows?
Not at the moment, there's a reason it is required to render the window to allow for shortcuts to be processed. We will be making a larger change to rework the shortcut processing, so we can hide the window properly.

Just FYI, the window is coming up every few minutes for me. Not just on boot. This is on 468. I'll try 469.

Maybe not, 468 won't update to 469. It gives me the option to update, closes, "updates" then stays as 468 :(

You're running into the same update bug that I did. Can you try to capture what handle is preventing update?

Hi @Spaldo,
I'm sorry you're having problems with the update.
Can you open Windows File Explorer and enter
%TEMP%\1Password
in the address bar and look for the latest update6.8.469 log file, open it and see if there are any specific errors at the end of log file. If yes, let us know here what it says.Do you have any anti-malware solution beside Microsoft's Windows Defender tool?

I am not using Win Defender, I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2018. FYI, I have never had this happen before, it always updates without any issue...
@kop48 I am not sure exactly in that thread what you are after, but, maybe you mean what is in the log above? 1Password.NativeMessagingHost?

@MikeT , here is the log:

I use Bitdefender Total Security 2018 and not Windows Defender. However, I have always been using Bitdefender and never had any issues until this build in the auto update process.
@kop48 , I am not sure exactly what you want me to do from that thread? However, in the log above it mentions 1Password.NativeMessagingHost so I am not sure if that is what you mean?

@Spaldo take a look at @MikeT's post to grab the necessary info:

Never mind, I misread your screenshot :)

Thanks, guys. I am not sure why PDB file is involved here unless the program has crashed.
We'll keep looking into it.

I'm still seeing 1Password launch at login in the v7 Beta. Is this still expected?

Yes, we haven't fixed it yet.
