Welcome to the forum, @GOM_David! Sounds like your office is keeping you on Firefox ESR. Fortunately, we do support ESR, so it's not the 1Password extension version that's causing you trouble. That means it's something else, however. I'm guessing either your version of .NET isn't up to date, or possibly 1Password 4 for Windows isn't set to use Native Messaging. Please give the following a go:
- Ensure you have the Microsoft .NET framework, v4.6.2 or later installed. This link can help. If it isn't present or there is an older version this will cause problems. Don't worry, if you have it installed already the installer will not proceed and will inform you.
- Check to make sure the .NET framework is showing as being installed in the Control Panel. I only add this step as one user found it didn't install properly the first time, making the troubleshooting tougher as we had assumed it had been successful.
- In 1Password 4 for Windows check to see if the menu option "Help > Advanced > Use Native Messaging protocol" is enabled. If it isn't please select it.
- Restart your PC.
- Launch 1Password and unlock.
- Open Firefox and attempt to use the 1Password Browser Extension.
If the extension is still not working then I've found this next set of steps has helped a number of people.
- Launch 1Password and enter the menu "File > Reopen 1Password Vault". Note the location of your vault.
- Use the control panel and uninstall 1Password 4 for Windows.
- Restart your PC.
- Download and install a fresh copy of 1Password 4 for Windows from https://agilebits.com/downloads
- If you aren't automatically asked to select your vault and are instead prompted with three options select "I have used 1Password before".
- Point 1Password to the location of your vault as noted in step 6.
- Open Firefox and attempt to use the 1Password Browser Extension.
That should get things working for you, but let us know how it goes! Good luck.

Thank you Lars for such a detailed and swift response. Perfect advice.
FYI, our .NET is version 4.7 and I only got to step 3 and the add-in started to work again, after the "Help > Advanced > Use Native Messaging protocol" step. Didn't need to restart.
