1PW 6 still listed in Apps after uninstall

Hi there,

a while ago I tested 1PW 6.6 and uninstalled it, because 1PW 4 works for me and I didn't want to switch to subscription (yet).
Now I saw that the entry for 1PW 6.6 still was in the apps list of W10. By trying to uninstall it, it said it can't find the uninstall.exe. And yes, it wasn't there as the program was uninstalled successfully.

I downloaded the current installer 6.8.492, re-installed the program and uninstalled it. But again the entry of 1 PW 6 is still there. Yes, I have closed and opened the settings window and also restarted the computer. But somwhere must be a tiny entry that bugs W10 to display 1PW6 in the Apps list.

Can you give me advice (or maybe an extra super cleaning digging through reg 1PW6 uninstall program? :D)

  • Hi @Damnatus,

    Thanks for writing in.

Do you have multiple Windows accounts, such as one admin and one standard account?

If yes, do you recall if you've tried to install 1Password 6 as an admin? If yes, that can install to the admin profile. Try switching to the admin account and uninstall 1Password from there. You may need to repeat the process of installing 1Password 6 there and uninstalling in there.

    Hi there @MikeT!

Yes, I have a designated admin account and work on a standard account.
I can't recalled if I have installed it with admin rights.

So I have logged into the admin acc, but there it doesn't show up in the Apps list.
Nevertheless, I have installed it on the admin acc and uninstalled it. It's gone there from the Apps list after that procedure.
But not on the standard account.

    I have found a solution.

After Revo Uninstaller didn't get 1PW 6 as Program (because it starts only with Admin Priv), I navigated directly to the local/1password/ folder and started the uninstaller from there.

While launching the uninstaller from the Apps panel requires elevated rights and runs therefore on admin level, going to the uninst exe directly doesn't require elevation. It deletes the data and also the entry in the apps list in the standard account.

I don't know if this is just a bit kinky in my case or it affects more than me, but maybe you can check it.

Edit: At least at my end it's reproducable.
    1. Install with standard acc w/o elevated rights
    2. Go to System -> Apps and try uninstall it (It requires elevated rights)
    3. Uninstaller runs through, but stub in the app list remains
    4. Error on trying to uninstall (can't find uninst000.exe)

    Fix
    1. Install with standard account w/o elevated rights
    2. Go to %localappdata%\1paasword/data/6
    3. Execute "uninstall000.exe" (it doesn't require elevated rights)
    4. Uninstaller runs through, local program data is deleted with the apps list entry

  • Hi @Damnatus,

We'll test it, it may be the way the uninstaller registered itself to Windows.

    Thanks for letting us know.
