Main Password in Clear

Today I thought my main password had become corrupted because I could not log into my vault. It took me a while to realise that my problem was that I had the wrong keyboard selected, (I use two different language keyboards). Had I been able to see what I was typing I would have realised much quicker what was going on and also reduced my blood pressure more than somewhat.

  • Hi @Andrew42,

    Thanks for writing in.

I can understand that feeling, it happened to me a few times. If you open the main 1Password 4, the interface does show what keyboard is in use and 1Password Helper shows it in the titlebar. Here's a screenshot:

Revealing the main 1Password master password in clear view is a risky on its own as well, we try not to do this to prevent any accidental revealing of passwords when someone is next to you. It is better to type it wrong one time then to have someone memorize your password that may be a passphrase. If you did reveal it, changing the password could put more pressure on you as well since you have to be careful to memorize the new password and change it on all devices. There's a con and pro for everything but in this case, we think this is a better solution for this type of situation.
