1Password 7 Windows when exiting sleep, All Items show "loading" for 1+ minutes
Put my Win8.1 Pro laptop into sleep, then when I opened laptop back up, immediately opened 1PW7 in the All Items view. Record names showed "loading" for 1+ minutes or so. That seems unreasonably long.
Win8.1 Pro 64bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU
8GB Ram
Also would be nice to have the version number displayed on the application tile icon.
1Password Version: 7 Beta
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: Win8.1 Pro
Sync Type: Dropbox

Thanks for writing in.
How many items do you have in All Items?
The loading delay may be because of the network stack, it is taking longer than usual to sync and it doesn't decrypt first. It is something we're planning to optimize in a future update.
- Do you notice the delay every single time you wake up or random?
- Can you wait a minute after waking the laptop to let its network stack re-initialize fully before you open 1Password to see if it finish quicker?
1Password tile icon? Do you mean showing
1Password 7
instead of1Password
on the start menu? We are moving away from having versioned 1Password names, so it'd show up as 1Password forever. We do plan to make 1Password 7 install over 1Password 4 when we're ready, thus we don't plan to add the version to the tile or in 1Password branding anywhere.0 -
Total All Items count 283.
I do have extra sections in many 1PW entries, attach files to entries, so there are plenty of cases where an individual entry would be "heavier" than a basic entry.
The reason I noticed this was because I was in 1PW7 when I put my laptop into sleep mode, so 1PW7 was front and center when the laptop woke from sleep. The lag was pretty noticeable because I had reopened my laptop with the intent to play around with 1PW7 and the new features, so I was right where I wanted to be upon reopening the laptop.
I have not noticed the same behavior in other use cases, like when relaunching the app. If I can test to a consistent result, I will advise.
Tile: Yes, that is what I meant. I understand why you want a simple icon, but when running two (or more versions) of 1PW along side, it's nice to be able to tell which icon runs which version. Consider this a very minor comment, not really an issue.

Additional note: I had this occur again after I installed an update. In the interim I noticed I had 150 items in the trash. I emptied the trash, so while the "loading" experience happened again after install, the duration was more like 30 seconds instead of 1+ minutes.

Can you email us your 1Password diagnostics report? It may contain some extra logs that can explain what's going on.
Please use this guide to generate the report and email it to us at support+windows@agilebits.com. Also, in the email, include the link to this thread along with your forum username, so that we can connect the email to this thread.
Let us know here when you've sent it, so we can confirm we got the email.

Just sent the email with the diagnostic report. Thanks ~

Not sure where this stands, but was able to see similar (related?) and confirmed similar on two different devices. (updated password over weekend and catching up on a couple of devices).
There is a long lag after it is loading up the database for the first time (was prompted to re-sign in, including secret key). Then when locking it hangs (really) many minutes showing the word loading.
Part of this is that I did not immediately put in my new password, I "X-ed" the password notice so I could copy my secret key. Locked, unlocked, got prompted again, updated password, then the opening and closing lag.
X-ing out stops it, and it then functions normally both during the open and the lock.
Windows Beta, 7.0.532 latest as of this post.

Response from support via email quoted here... "Thanks for sending over the diagnostics! I think @MikeT was likely on the right track here as I see your network going down twice right after 1Password was unlocked right at the end of your diagnostics, immediately followed by a ridiculously long sync. Since this is at the end of your diagnostics, these logs are from whatever you did right before you sent the report. Did you repeat a similar set of steps as those you reported in the forum (putting your laptop to sleep with 1Password open at the front) right before generating your diagnostics? Knowing what led to this happening would be helpful."
I was able to repeat the issue subsequent to the above email from support with the following steps:
I let my laptop go into sleep mode, returned to it 1-2 hours later, laptop screen was locked, entered laptop password, closed a File Explorer window, turned to 1PW7 with Alt + Tab key and entered my vault password, and I got the "loading" symptom again. Firefox was already running when I brought the laptop out of sleep, with maybe 10 tabs opened.
The loading symptom lasted long enough for me to go back to Firefox browser, open Gmail, find the support email reply to me and started writing an email to support before the entry names finished loading.
As I suspected, the symptom occurs at a computer state change out of sleep. There may be other circumstances beyond this one, example exiting hibernation, and if I can identify what they are I will report.
Thanks so much~

Thanks. Maybe. Two devices, but both the home network.... hmmm... appreciate the feedback!

@AlwaysSortaCurious: I actually was testing some unrelated Master Password change stuff today and ran into the same issue. If my memory is to be trusted, you use 1Password.com to sync, so I'd wager you ran into exactly what I did. After some fiddling, and with some help from MikeT who graciously jumped in on his weekend to lend a hand, I was able to reproduce it.
I've left it to the engineering team to test further and hunt down the exact cause, but if my current understanding turns out to be correct, you'll only run into this issue when you change the Master Password for the first account you signed in with. Otherwise, you should be fine. I don't think these issues are directly related at present, even though the symptoms are near-identical. We'll see, though. This wouldn't be the first time I've been proven wrong.
Also, I noticed you said you went to copy your Secret Key. As a nice tip, 1Password 7 can scan your Setup Code from your screen. Next time you need to fill a sign-in form in the app, click Scan your Setup Code and choose From my screen with your Emergency Kit pulled up. As often as I sign in and out of accounts, this is basically my favorite thing, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. :chuffed:

Lol. Glad to help confirm ! Yup, 1Password sync. I generally open the website first for that reason was being real typing lazy.... true.

Hey, you're in good company. Anyway, we'll get to the bottom of this. :)

@MikeT After upgrading to 7.0.539, I had to reboot for an unrelated matter, and took the opportunity to retest this "Loading" after a system state change.
Unfortunately, no improvements on the timing, I counted about a 95 second lag between the app opening, and the entries' names being refreshed from "Loading" to actual entry name. This was a verbal count, so the count could be off by +/- 10 seconds, but definitely in the +1 minute range

@Superfandominatrix: That's no good at all. Thanks for letting us know. Can you send us a fresh diagnostics report the next time you encounter this issue, and post the Support ID you receive here? Thanks!

@MikeT @brenty I worked with support over email, and I have a solution based on their recommendations. I copied my Dropbox vault to Desktop, in 1PW7 removed the Dropbox vault and added the copied vault on my Desktop. Opened 1PW7 noted the speedy entry load times < 5 seconds. Removed the Desktop vault from 1PW7, deleted the Desktop vault, and added the Dropbox vault back again.
Dropbox load times after this dropped from the 2 minute plus range to under 5 seconds. This is very workable.
Support indicated that removing and re-adding my primary Dropbox vault forced a re-calibration that was needed. Apparently re-calibration happens only when master password are changed and when a vault is added initially? Hopefully regurgitated what I was told correctly :-)

@Superfandominatrix: You regurgitated my thoughts well, but I'll have to hope I'm on the right track there. As I mentioned in our e-mail conversation, I was definitely reaching a bit beyond my comfort zone, so I'm steeling myself a bit for MikeT popping in here and telling me I'm wrong. At the end of the day, though, I'm simply pleased we found something that worked, even if it turns out my premise was fundamentally flawed. :chuffed:
