Love it. But I’ve noticed the algorithm could be a little better for exact matches.

E.g. I search for “fire”. My results are (in order):

FlightAware
Confirmation.pdf – Experian
Fidelity
SF Fire CU

I’d expect that last one to be the first one – it exactly, letter for letter, in order matches my query. I can think of no better way to find a specific item than by typing what I know to be a fairly unique, exact part of its name. Y’know? :)

  • Hi @pdokas,

I'm really glad you like the new Quick Open feature! The fuzzy matching algorithm can sometimes return surprising results, but it comes down to the weights we assign certain letter combination and positions.

We assign match scores bonuses for things like:

    • First letter matches
    • Consecutive letter matches
    • Number of matching letters

The weights we assign these bonuses affect the match score for a result. As we move through the beta we'll likely tweak the weights when we find cases (like yours) that could be better. The hard part is that the score bonuses we set are applied to everyone's Quick Open search, so we have to settle on values that are as good as possible for the largest number of users.

Thanks very much for your feedback!
