1Password Extension Problems on Microsoft Edge

Hello,

Having an issue with the 1Password extension for Edge. This machine happens to be running the latest beta version of 1Password desktop, but I have had the same issue with recent release versions as well.

After installing the extension from the Microsoft Store, it will work for as long as the Edge browser window is initially open. Closing and re-opening Edge causes the extension to do nothing when clicked. Terminating the "1Password.Edge.Universal" process in Task Manager and restarting Edge will cause the extension to work again for exactly one browser session. Then, the cycle repeats itself.

It is worth noting that when the extension is working, the parent process in Task Manager is called simply "1Password." Under that are three items: "1Password.Edge.Native (32-bit)" "1Password.Edge.Universal" and "Runtime Broker". When the extension is not working, the parent process name is shown in Task Manager as "1Password.Edge.Universal" and under that are only two items: "1Password.Edge.Universal" and "Runtime Broker".

Extensions in Chrome and Firefox on the same machine work flawlessly. Is this a known issue with the Edge extension, and is there a fix short of having to restart it each time I launch Edge?

Thanks!

  • Hi @itguru,

    Thanks for reporting this.

This is a limitation with Edge and 1Password extension for Edge in general. Edge and 1Password extension for Edge are UWP apps, they get suspended instead of terminated as requested. If they're suspended by the OS, we can't terminate to restart it. There is no short term solution for this at the moment, we are working with Microsoft to find a solution but this situation became worse on the latest Insider builds such as 1803 you're using. You've have to end-task the 1Password.Edge.Universal process each time you close Edge.

Our recommendation at this point is to use Firefox or Chrome only with 1Password.
