fyi, @thightower, as mentioned on Nov 20 where I posted the screenshot, I DID already try to use /Users/username/Dropbox directly and it gave me the same error. As I said I'm new to 1Password7, so I wasn't aware of the reset feature. I did as @brenty described and it finally worked not without one little hiccup though. After selecting the dropbox option, there were two options listed for my opvault

    • /Users/username/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.opvault
    • ~/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.opvault

fyi, choosing the first one didn't seem to work. It continued as if it did work but then I couldn't actually get past the unlock screen since I got this error:

Then I reset all my data again and the second option using '~' path seemed to work. Odd given that the first is a complete path vs relative. Anyway just wanted to let you know. Once that worked and I was into my private vault, I was able to log in and now have the private next to the business vaults in the same instance.

@brenty you are correct in that if I was not backing up my data offsite I might be in trouble if I lost everything at home (or in Dropbox). But I'm backing up my data offsite so that isn't an issue. However, if you are telling me the standalone vault isn't as secure as you claim it is, that's another issue :-). Otherwise, I'm all set now!

Oops, my bad missed the part about you trying it before. Glad you're sorted though.

  • Thanks for letting us know you were able to get this sorted out.
