Upgrading from 4.6 to 7.0

I currently have 1Password 4.6 installed. Is it free to upgrade to 7.0? Or do I need to convert to the subscription? Is there a one-time fee license instead? Will I still be able to use Dropbox to sync my database?

    I have this question as well. I really don't want a subscription for password management when I'm storing the data in Dropbox.

    @Lyman: The release notes state:
    1Password 7 now supports standalone Windows license, you can add or buy the license via 1Password menu > License.

    I, too, am wondering if Dropbox sync is still supported. The release notes for 6.5.400 (build #400) – released 2017-04-05 suggest that it's not, and that would be terribly disappointing.

    @Mishigas that explains why I couldn't find it on the website. Thanks.

    So I started to install 7.0 and noticed this screen.

    "Some features are only available with a 1Password membership [...]"

    The wording is kind of weird. Is the $49.99 single user license not a 1Password membership? Or am I just reading that wrong and as long as you pay for 1 of the options you're a member?

    @Lyman

    Memberships and licenses are two very different things and, yes, some features advertised for 1Password 7 require a membership as the features require the 1Password service in order to function. The various features and benefits of a membership are outlined over at https://support.1password.com/why-membership/.

    The $49.99 single user license is not a 1Password membership. It is a standalone license.

    Sorry to resurrect an old thread here, but this seems to be the closest to an answer I've found, without actually being an answer.

    Corey_C or any 1Password team member: is Dropbox Sync supported in version 7?

    My particular context is:

    • 1Password 4 (Windows) license holder
    • Android user

    With the release of 7, my Android app has lost functionality - I can no longer sync my database to my phone via dropbox.
    I'm fine with installing 1Password v7 on my PC and upgrading my database, if that's what will get back the functionality I've been using.

    I am not fine with paying a subscription fee to recover the features I've always had. I'm also not crazy about hosting my data with AgileBits rather than on my own account in another service - I prefer the segregation.

    If this is all natively supported and all I need to do is drop my v4 license into the v7 app and upgrade my database, great. I definitely HOPE that's the answer, as I will be quite disappointed if multi-device sync is being used as the lever to force paying customers to pay again for subscription services.

    Same situation, see my sync error thread. Either something is broken or it's just incompatibility. But would like to answer to this as well.

  • Hi guys,

    @doskei,

    With the release of 7, my Android app has lost functionality - I can no longer sync my database to my phone via dropbox.

    We did not remove Dropbox sync in 1Password 7 for Android but we may stop the sync if it is not using the compatible OPVault format. Here's me using Dropbox sync in 1Password 7.1 for Android with the compatible OPVault format.

    If you're using the old legacy Agile Keychain format, you have to convert it first before it can resume the sync. You can use the same converted OPVault with 1Password 4 for Windows but it won't have the same experience since 1Password 4 is older and doesn't have all of the features that 1Password 7 has for OPVault such as nested tags on the sidebar.

    is Dropbox Sync supported in version 7?

    Yes, 1Password 7 for Windows support Dropbox sync, we use something called Folder Sync. We monitor an external folder that you choose to sync with 1Password, this means any folders in any cloud services as well. You do have to have Dropbox (or other) installed and running on your PC to sync the folders for you.

    An example; if you use Google Drive, you can select a folder in Google Drive to be stored on your hard drive and configure 1Password to use that folder, and 1Password will keep that folder in sync with its local database. On your Android device, have Google Drive app download the 1Password folder to the Android storage for 1Password to sync with using Folder Sync. You can see more details here.

    If this is all natively supported and all I need to do is drop my v4 license into the v7 app and upgrade my database, great.

    You cannot reuse your 1Password 4 for Windows license, that license is only for 1Password 4. A separate purchase is required for 1Password 7 on Windows but as mentioned, you can still use 1Password 4 for Windows with 1Password 7 for Android but 1Password 4 is not fully optimized for the OPVault format as it is outdated.
