Two usability misses in 1Password mini?

I've just moved over to a Windows machine after years on a Mac. Mainly I'm delighted that I can just get easy access to all my secure stuff - so thanks for keeping my credentials safe all these years on macOS, iOS & Android ... now on Windows too.

Two minor issues I've found with 1Password mini (is the little popup version installed by the Chrome extension still called this on Windows?), which may just be my misunderstandings:

  1. There seems to be no way to switch vaults from the keyboard. I keep separate work & personal vaults, so switch between them often.
  2. It also doesn't seem to be possible to expand an entry (eg. to grab a username / password for something other than the web browser) from the keyboard -- I've only been able to do so using a right-click.

(I hate reaching for a mouse when I'm in the flow of work)

Cheers

1Password Version: 7.1.567
Extension Version: 4.7.2.90
OS Version: Windows 10
Sync Type: 1P account

  • Hi @crisbennett,

    Thanks for writing in.

(is the little popup version installed by the Chrome extension still called this on Windows?)

Yes, it's called 1Password mini on both platforms, we're aligning more and more to be consistent on both/all platforms as much as we can.

There is no UI or data in the regular 1Password browser extensions, the extension integrates with the browser and connects to the running 1Password program, where it brings up its native 1Password mini view on top of your browsers. That's why 1Password extensions are actually the same for almost all 1Password versions on both Windows and macOS but the way they look or interact is different based on the installed 1Password version.

There seems to be no way to switch vaults from the keyboard. I keep separate work & personal vaults, so switch between them often.

At the moment, there is no shortcut to switch vault specifically, we plan to add that in a future update. What you can do is after bringing up 1Password mini, press Alt + 0, it'll switch you to the vault switcher and you can change vault there.

You can also left-arrow key to the sidebar, go up to the vault switcher and right arrow to select the vault with the enter key.

It also doesn't seem to be possible to expand an entry (eg. to grab a username / password for something other than the web browser) from the keyboard -- I've only been able to do so using a right-click.

We haven't implemented the details viewer/editor into 1Password mini yet. For now, what you can do is use the shortcut key on your keyboard or if it doesn't have it, press Shift + F10, it'll behave the same way as right-clicking but without the mouse.

    Thanks @MikeT, that's very helpful.

Overall I'm really impressed with the Windows 1P client. It was the first thing I installed on the new machine, and has helped make the transition to a new OS more pleasurable than it might have been.
