1Password 4 features I miss in v7 and three other questions.
Two things I liked in v4 that are missing in v7 Subscription ...
- When the v4 App was unlocked, the Taskbar would show an "unlocked-lock" icon. In v7, no such feature ... meaning I have to second guess if I have already unlocked the App! :-)
- Password strength. In v4 when looking at the account the strength of the password was displayed as a green line ... the longer the line the stronger the password. Great (IMHO) visual. Missing in v7.
Three questions ...
- Now that I have switched from a licensed version to the subscription model where the vault is on your server, can I delete the Dropbox > 1Password folders on my desktop and iPad?
- And, speaking of vaults ... are the backups stored on my 1Password.ca Cloud account and why do I not see them in the 1Password > Settings > Backup screen?
- How would I restore an older vault if needed?
Cheers,
Bob

1Password 7 supports OPVault for local vault, if that is what you prefer. The OPVault vault(s) can reside in the Dropbox folder.

I am guessing that you haven't created any OPVault vaults?

Everything is in the cloud for subscribers.
I agree that 1Password 4 is better than 1Password 7 in some ways even if it is showing its age.

@BobArch2: Indeed, sorry for the confusion. While we believe that 1Password memberships are the best experience because of all the benefits included, 1Password 7 definitely supports local vaults and licenses too.
With 1Password memberships, all of the encrypted data is stored on the server, and data backup is done there as well, including item history. That way, even if all of your devices are lost, stolen, or destroyed, you can still sign in with your account credentials to access your data again. That's why it isn't listed in the app: the app doesn't have the encrypted backups; the server does.
You can certainly get rid of your Dropbox vault if you wish, but I'd encourage you to hang onto it until you're satisfied with the transition to the account. It probably doesn't take up much space, and you can never have too many backups. As you use your new account in the coming months though, at a certain point, you just won't need it anymore since the data will be old and you'll have your newest, most relevant stuff in your account.
As for the new Windows app, we'll be adding password strength indicators in a future update. I haven't heard anyone else request that the "lock" notification icon return, but it's something we can consider.
I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Nah, I am fine with the subscription features and no need for local vaults on my hardware.

Storing, encrypting and backing up on your server was my understanding and I am fine with that. What I am not clear on is how do I access item history?

But you don't understand ... Dropbox and associated files are on my secondary drive D: which is a 2TB drive and Dropbox > 1Password occupies 35mb and I only have 88% free space on D: !!! (JK). I will leave will enough alone and wait several months before reclaiming that 35mb of space.

This 77 year old needs all the help available ... password strength indicators would be nice. As for the "unlocked-lock" icon, consider this to be the first feature request from me! 8-)

@BobArch2: Gotcha. That should keep things fairly simple then. :)

"View Item History" is an option in an item's details in the 1Password.com web interface. You can find more information in the guide I linked earlier:
View and restore previous versions of items

Indeed, mine's at about 90%, but I've got a lot less space than you. I don't think that 35MB will break the bank, but you could always zip it up and put it somewhere else for safekeeping if that's a concern.

Sounds good! Thanks for letting us know! :)
