Suggestions to prevent typing into website instead of 1Password password box when focus is lost
i have been entering my master password on site logins by mistake to open 1password. This has happened 2 times in last 3 months and i had to change master password after that. i know that sounds weird but my 1password locks in few minutes of not use (i want this way) and it requires unlock when I need it which is quite frequent.
Is there a way to have a button on login screen of 1password which I can click to bring login box to enter master password? I don't think master password edit box should be present by default.
1Password Version: 7.2.581
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: Windows 10
Sync Type: 1password.com

Hi @sach_nyc,
Thanks for writing in.

The lock lock view does have the lock button, click it, it'll turn red with no master password entered.
The other option is to open the main 1Password interface to unlock. You can pin 1Password to the taskbar, use Windows Key + digit (first pinned app can open with Windows Key + 1, up to 9 apps) to open 1Password maxi, unlock, and then switch back to your browser.

but it does not prevent me to unlock it without clicking lock icon. I prefer loginbox box to appear only after clicking lock icon

Hi @sach_nyc,
If 1Password locks, the next time you press
Ctrl + \
in order to fill your credentials on the website, you will see a locked 1Password extension. Could you please tell me the steps you take to fill your credentials in the browser? Do you do it differently? Thanks!Cheers,

We have no desire to change this, this is the same consistent 1Password experience across all platforms that works for almost everyone.
The issue here has nothing to do with the design itself, it's a bug in the Windows graphics system that tells us the wrong information, it tells us that it is focused when the view itself isn't. We're working on a long term project to replace our UI framework but it is not an easy or small task.

I am not sure how that is possible since you can obviously see the entire 1Password window being opened and you can click into the password field to start typing. It is a suggestion that gives you more confidence that you're entering your master password in 1Password and not in any sites in web browsers.

well, I am doing it same way. But you need to know little bit NLP and habit forming to avoid entering master passwords on website login pages. Interface to enter masterpassword and website password on 1password and website respectively is almost same. so, I am sure other people are also doing this mistake every few months or may be sooner. There should be a button on 1password login screen to bring edit box to enter password. this will break the pattern. I am not NLP expert but this is what I think will work.

I am sure many other users are also doing same mistake as I am no special person. you should try to find a solution to it.

well, if many people are doing same mistake, then you might want to change your desires. some people might just ignore this mistake but they do not realize that their master password is compromised if it is sent to some server.

It also slows down the process of unlocking 1Password, which most folks don't want either.
We'll look into it but right now, our focus is on fixing the focusing issue. We have some ideas we want to try first.
