1Password 8.10.7 Mac locks when window closed
1Password is locking when I close the window (red X button). If I just hide the window (yellow — button) it remains unlocked.
This is a new behavior, perhaps coincidentally after returning from several days away from home. Previously, closing the window left 1Password unlocked.
I see nothing in Settings that would affect this behavior.

EDIT: My bad. The default "Newest" sorting order, coupled with all replies having the "3 years ago" timestamp made it look like the earliest response ("enable the menu bar icon") was actually the latest. I will leave my comment still, as a record of my frustration with this issue, although at least half of it was unwarranted, apparently.
This thread is an embarrassment. 3 years later the issue still persists. 3 years of everyone still paying you.
And it is an issue, please stop trying to convince people that this is by design. Your settings page has clear options for auto-lock behavior, and window close killing everything is not among them. It happens despite them. With the design standard you guys have (that we pay for, over your competitors), there's no way you would willingly let pass such opaque behavior without even a mention of it in the relevant settings section.
I do not care for the stupid menu bar icon, I will not have unnecessary garbage there. And I will not pay for some third party tool to solve a problem that an expensive tool I pay for creates.
I kept patiently waiting for this behavior to be fixed but I'm sick of it now. Every single day I have to reopen 1P countless times and unlock it because one way or another, the main window was closed and the SSH agent is dead.
At the end of the day, it doesn't even matter if it is by design or not. Clearly many people don't want the menu bar icon, and still want to keep 1P alive even when the main window is closed. "There's a product across the street to fix the problems in the product we sold you" is not a solution!- 1P_Dave

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. We really appreciate it. The product team does review and consider suggestions from the community, but not every request can be implemented right away (or in some cases at all), as we have to balance different priorities and concerns.
I personally think your point about the label for the “Keep 1Password in the menu bar” option not being as descriptive as it could be is a valid one. While I can’t promise any immediate changes to either this functionality or the description of the option, I’ll make sure all of your feedback is shared with the team so your voice is part of the conversation about the menu bar icon moving forward.

Hi all, just want to join the chorus about wanting to keep 1Password running with the menu bar icon off. Aside from wanting to keep the menubar free of clutter (and not really needing the icon because I use hotkeys), I think there's a minor security issue here. For various reasons, I don't want people to know I have 1Password running, and the app's functionality is pretty severely kneecapped when the app isn't running in the background. (For example, when it's not running in the background, Chrome often and unpredictably solicits touch ID and asks me to enter a password.)

Thank you for the feedback. I've added your comments to the internal work item that our developers have open to look into turning the menu bar icon off while still leaving 1Password running in the background.

I'm so glad I came across this thread. I find it a bit disingenuous that this change in functionality is being characterized as a bug fix to 1Password 8. I've been leaving 1Password running without any active windows and without the menu bar icon since the 1Password 7 days. Like others, I assumed that this was another bug in 1Password 8 and have spent the last couple weeks or so frustrated every time my 1P keyboard shortcuts weren't working.
I'll take the recommended steps and run the menu bar icon hidden, but for folks who don't use Bartender and don't want an unnecessary menu bar tool (my parents, for example), this seems like a fundamental change in functionality that breaks what I thought was 1Password's standard behaviour: always running in the background ready to respond to keyboard shortcuts.

Thank you, I've shared your feedback with the team. I don't believe that it's likely that the app will go back to the old behaviour but we do have a work item open to look into giving folks an option to keep 1Password open and unlocked even when the menubar icon is disabled.

I find this new behavior confusing as well. Until I realized what was going on, I kept logging in and closing the app window afterward like I normally do, which stuck me in a cycle of unlocking and immediately locking 1Password. An option to go back to the old behavior would be great, and in the future, better messaging around a high-impact change like this would be ideal 🙂 I definitely thought this was a bug and kept looking for an update that would patch it.

Thank you for the feedback, I've passed it along to the team. Hopefully we can improve the experience with keeping 1Password open even when the menubar is disabled in a future update.
And thank you for being part of 1Password for so many years! If you're running into other issues then please open a new thread for those so that we can take a look and investigate. 🙂

I was having this issue on 2 Macs and showing the menu at icon resolved both machines. I have no need and don’t want to have the menu bar icon.
1Password prior to v8 was awesome software. I think I’ve been using 1Password since the iPhone 3G days (or close to it). It’s sad that I’m hating v8 more and more each day. It’s just filled with bugs and unreliable.

I've added your request that we add an option to keep 1Password running in the background, even when the menu bar icon is disabled, to the internal work item open for the issue. Thank you for the feedback. 🙂
