1Password for Safari not communicating with the desktop app [FIXED]
Both the extension and the app are updated and at current versions.
Have tried various combinations of quitting browser + app, and toggling / untoggling the "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" and "Connect with 1Password in the browser" settings in the extension / app, respectively.
Have toggled on and off the "Allow in the background" setting in System Settings->General
Still getting "Status: Problems connecting 🟠. Please make sure the 1Password app is unlocked." 100% of the time when using the extension, and no option for TouchID
BEYOND frustrated at this point. I just want to use TouchID on my browser extension!
1Password Version: 8.10.40
Extension Version: 2.27.1
OS Version: 14.6.1
Browser: Safari

I've updated to version 8.10.44. It's working now.

Fixed! But I had to uninstall and reinstall 1P for Safari after reading this. No notification or obvious way to check for an update.

1Password Team
Good news. The latest version 8.10.44 of the 1Password 8 desktop app and the 1Password for Safari web extension has fixed the connection issue. Therefore, can you update your 1Password 8 desktop app and the 1Password for Safari web extension:
After the updates, let's quit Safari by right-clicking(ctrl + click) its icon in the Dock area and selecting "Quit". Then, open & unlock the 1Password 8 desktop app first, restart Safari to see if 1Password extension is unlocked there automatically.
Can you let me know if the updates help to fix your issue?

Thanks for fixing. I'm not sure what was more frustrating, having to unlock every time or the fact that I had to enter the PW every time because biometrics were also not working. :(
Thankfully, all appears to be well again after updating again. FYI, I didn't get the "Update" option in the app store by going and searching. I went through the app settings and clicked on Browser, which opened the app store and then prompted me with the Update option. - benmattisonOccasional Contributor

You can't count on updates, if the version number is the same, the app store assumes the app is already in the correct version. How the hell is that not obvious for literal app developers?

Just updating the existing version of 1Password for Safari didn't work for me. I had to quit Safari, uninstall 1Password for Safari, and re-download it from the App Store. Now it works.
Sorry to be harsh, but this is pretty sloppy, guys, to have a certificate just expire and break a security-related app.
Regards.
