1PW memory usage

I happened to be checking some things using Activity Monitor on my Mac, and noticed that 1PW was using 2 GB of memory. That seems a lot as I don't have all that many passwords. Could something be wrong?

I couldn't see how to find the total number of items I have in 1PW, but I am sure that loads of people will have many more passwords than I have.

    Hi danco,

I'd agree that 2GB seems pretty steep!

Are you already running the latest version of 1Password (8.11.4 as of this writing)? We're always squishing bugs, so it's possible there's been a memory leak we've fixed.

Has 1Password been running a long time? That can increase the memory usage as more things get cached over time.I know I've been guilty of wondering why my Mac is seeming a bit dodgy and then realize I haven't restarted in several months.

In any case, I'd make sure you're running the latest version of 1Password, restart the app, and see if memory usage spikes like that again. If so, we can get a diagnostic report to see what the culprit is.

I'm running 8.11.4, but the update was recent, could have been after I posted. I had to restart my Mac for other reasons and the usage dropped to a reasonable figure.

As noted, I didn't see where I could get an actual count of items. That would be generally interesting even when it is not important.

        Hi danco,

If you see that memory usage go up again, please feel free to respond to this thread and we'll take a closer look.

To see the total number of items you have, select All Items in the left sidebar, then in the middle column (that has the actual items listed), scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll see the number of items you have.
