Google Chrome Extension issue (July 2025)

Hi there,

My Google Chrome Extension won't autofill login info at websites, and when I click on the Extension "Pin" at the top of the screen, it crashes and gives this error message:

"1password - Password manager has crashed. Click this balloon to reload the extension"

Clicking the "balloon" to reload, or going into the "extensions" portion of Chrome and reloading does *not*  help.

Have been running with the Chrome Extension for the last 2 years on this computer with no issues. FYI, I do not have this extension issue on my laptop

Also this: When I go to the Desktop 1PW version, and click "Open and Fill" for credentials, there's no auto-filling going on either.

Yep, I've looked here  https://support.1password.com/1password-browser-troubleshooting/?windows

and think I've done everything that is standard tech support fixes (Close Chrome, Close 1PW, restart computer, Chrome and 1PW are currently all updated.)

reference:

1Password for Windows 8.11.0 (81100029)

Chrome is up to date - Version 138.0.7204.101 (Official Build) (64-bit)

What else can we do here?

Thanks in advance!

Follow up for me from comments above...

I wasn't able to open "Settings" in the extension menu to get to generate diagnostic report.

With help of support via a separate email, here's what worked for me to solve this:

Creating a fresh browser profile with no other extensions installed and install 1Password there and test if the behaviour occurs there to try to narrow down where the issue lies. Steps:

    1. Click on your profile in the top right hand corner of your browser
    2. Choose Add new profile > Continue without an account
    3. Install 1Password from browser extension "store"
    4. Test to see if extension works as expected.

    ---

That *did*  work with 1PW extension working on the new profile.

Then, I went back into the main browser profile. Removed the 1PW extension. Added it back.

Not sure if what fixed it, but this is worth a shot.

  • If your 1Password stopped working after latest Chrome updates – the below fixed it for me:

    1. Go to chrome://flags/ and reset all.

    2. Go to Chrome settings, open Autofill settings and set to Third-party.

    3. Open Android settings for "Preferred service" and set to 1Password.

    4. Go to 1Password settings and check "Autofill in Chrome"

I am having this same issue, have tried all the steps but can't even get an error report to send to you.  Been fighting with this all morning.

Finally just got an error report, I will send it over.
