Here's why I went back to 1Password 7

I tried 1Password 8 for a while and overall really like it, especially Universal Autofill, but I had to go back to 1Password 7 unfortunately. If any when I see these things have been improved, I'll be happy to revisit.

  1. Quick Access is just a search bar. No access to Favorites, etc. That's not very quick access to my important stuff.
  2. I use 1Password Mini to fill in personal info and credit card info in web forms. Not possible via Quick Access. I think the Safari toolbar icon shows basically a Mini window like before, but I remove all those third party toolbar icons because I hate the forced blue for them. That's on Apple.
  3. When filling logins in a browser, the login options that come up are not properly displayed. Like one at work were I have other logins under the same domain name, but only one that's an exact match for the subdomain, with 1Password 7, it simply filled in the login via ⌘\, but in 1Password 8, it pulls up a menu with everything under that domain name, and the exact subdomain match isn't even the first (default) option.

the whole forum is full of complaints for v8. i dont understand why would they release a software with such bad usability. specially when considering their product is a password manager that we might use hundreds of times per day

Have 1Password installed on three Apple machines. Briefly tried out V8 on one system and went back to V7 within one day. Reasons that are listed above as well as a few others. I believe the relevant question that needs to be addressed now is this. How long will V7 remain supported? And, is there any time frame within which users will be "forced" to move to V8? Based on the feedback in this forum, a "forced" move to V8 would prove a very poor business decision.

I moved to 8 the other day, and quickly came to the same conclusions as above--particularly item 3 in hazmat's list.

Fully agreed. It's not improved, it's regressed.

Fully agreed. I reverted back to v7 too. 1Password is not only a security tool for me - it's also a productivity tool. And they really messed that one up on v8.

I have just reverted to version 7 for the reasons you mentioned, plus some others. I have 1P Mini activated by double-tapping the right command-key and never need to click on the browser button. Mini floats wherever I want it to and displays everything I NEED it to. It doesn't make false assumptions about the context, it doesn't truncate the names of similar items and it doesn't auto-submit (unless I want it to). In functional terms, it's like night-and-day ...1Password 7 is far superior. I do not understand how 1Password 8 got through testing in its present form.
