Mac app went away

I fixed this by just downloading the latest, so I'm just reporting this as a glitch:  sometime in the last day or two my 1Password Mac app just disappeared.... from Applications folder, toolbar and also menu bar icon. It was still working fine in my browsers.    I was on latest 1P version (and MacOS 15.3), maybe a glitch in an auto-update?

PS:  It's really hard to find where to create a new Post on this new board...

  • It happened again last night, with upgrade to Sequoia 15.3.2.  Yes, the 1Password app was moved into the "Incompatible" folder in Relocated Items.

I'm sorry that you both ran into the same issue again. It's not entirely clear why macOS might move an app into the "Relocated Items" folder, Apple's support documentation only states the following:

When you upgrade your Mac, your files and data are carefully reviewed to ensure they’re valid and authorized, undamaged, and in the correct locations. If any of your files couldn’t be moved to their new locations, they’re placed in a Relocated Items folder.

Since I can't reproduce the issue here on our end, it sounds like the issue might be due to something specific on your Macs. I do have a few suggestions for you to look into:

      1. If you're using third-party antivirus or security software then try adding 1Password to that software's exclusion list so that it isn't accidentally modifying the 1Password app.
      2. Make sure that 1Password is installed in the /Applications folder and not another location.
      3. Make sure that macOS System Integrity Protection is turned on: About System Integrity Protection on your Mac
        • You can check this by opening the Terminal app and running the following command: csrutil status

If everything looks okay then I would recommend reaching out to Apple's support team so that they can check why macOS is moving apps into the Relocated Items folder on your Mac. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hello davidbeav4657! 👋

I'm sorry that 1Password disappeared on your Mac. Sometimes it's possible for macOS to move files and apps during an update: If a Relocated Items folder appears on your Mac after upgrading macOS - Apple Support

Even if the 1Password app disappears from your Mac all of your items are still safely backed up to your 1Password account and will be downloaded to your Mac when you install the app and sign in again.

If you do see the issue again then please let me know.

Just to say, the same thing happened here overnight (2025-02-12 to 2025-02-13) on a Mac running Sequoia 15.3.1 (24D70). Using 1P in two Mac user accounts, one Personal, on Personal & Business. Scary moment this morning!
