With respect, this is a terribly shortsighted view. My expectation (based on decades of development and user experience) would be to be able to paste -any- plain text into a text field and have it stored and displayed -precisely- as entered.
I had some trouble quite some years ago when trying to extract a password in a string of text with, I believe, asterisks as described above, and could not for the life of me figure out why I could not log in somewhere important. Then I happened to go into the edit mode, and all of the special characters were displayed as I had entered them.
Please forgive the strong language, but this is one of the real user experience deficiencies in 1Password, like not being to reduce the application screen in (at least) macOS so that it doesn't take up nearly half of the horizontal space on my display.
Thank you very much for your informative and responsive posts in this forum; they are very much appreciated, especially as compared to most other vendor organizations.
