Sluggish, slow, buggy

https://1password.community/discussion/149375/why-is-1password-web-extension-still-so-buggy

Just want to chime in and say that it’s very buggy for me as well. It’s not one issue and it’s not always consistent. Just a few issues off the top of my head is listed below. As someone one in software myself, I know it’s not very helpful, but again I don’t have the time or patience to carefully test and create reproducible steps for every issue. That’s why I pay for software - been paying for 1Password since 2008. I have been through multiple redesigns and new launches. But the current iteration of issues is very nearly at the verge of breaking me out of 1Password after 16 years (I started using it as soon as you released aupoort for windows)!!!

  • Tutorial banner popping up repeatedly. Happened on Mac, safari extension on iPhone and iPad.
  • Extension crashes or won’t unlock quick regularly
  • Sloooooooowwwwwww. The animation to unlock and the unlock process takes so long that I have memorized the passwords for frequently used sites that won’t remember me - like my work. So I don’t have to unlock. Imagine that!!
  • Autofill - hiding & conflicting with important browser auto fill - like filling codes from messages. So much so that I have turned it off for everything that’s not login
  • 2-step flow login forms. There was a time when I’d find the occasional forms that 1Password won’t auto compete the password properly - way back when autocomplete was introduced. I’d file the occasional ticket and it’ll be fixed so quickly. Now I see well used websites that employ the - enter your email first and then we’ll decide whether we want to show you the password field or send a link or so or whatever we may please - 2-step login flow. Autocomplete just doesn’t work in these flows. If anyone can find a solution to this I’d have expected it to be 1P.
  • The entire UI is just slow. People new to 1P may not realise it but as someone having used it for 16 years! I know how painfully slow it has all become. All the while my Mac is faster than ever. And apple’s built in password manager is blazing fast.
  • Even filling in this form was so painful. It’s clearly a non-standard textbook and it keeps shrinking and expanding as type and delete words. And it’s so painfully hard to scroll through the text on the phone or place the cursor. Not to mention the infinite spiral loop of “verify you are a human” cloudflare hell.

New to the forums but have been using 1Password since v2. Agree with the bugginess, I don’t see as much of the sluggishness but that could be for a variety of factors.

The bugginess for me happens whenever there’s been an update; whether it’s the iOS/iPadOS or macOS Safari extension, it loses connection or gets out of sync with the 1Password app resulting in the inability to auto-fill, update items, create new ones, etc. I have to fully quit both apps, re-open 1Password & ensure it’s unlocked, & then re-open Safari. Some times additional combinations of both.

With the move to Electron with 1Password 8 & the promise of Passkey support & other enhancements, I’ve tried to give 1P8 a chance. The thought of moving back to 1P7 without Passkeys doesn’t quite work, & really all that means is I’m going to have to start exploring alternatives soon. Not looking forward to that.
