When signing into certain websites on Edge, I see a passkey prompt from Windows
I want all of my passkeys saved to 1Password on Windows 11. I never want to be prompted by Windows Security, Chrome or Edge's built in passkey repository. I have:
- 1Password set as the default password manager for Chrome and Edge
- Passkey and password's creation prompt turned off on Chrome, Edge and Windows
- Autofill and Save options all enabled on the 1Password browser extension for Chrome and Edge
And yet when I go to login to Siriusxm.com on Edge, I am prompted by Windows Security for a passkey:
This would set it up (or pull from) Windows Security. Why isn't 1password pop-up pulling up instead?
I even went as far as doing the registry hack to stop Windows for prompting for passkey:
HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\NoPasskeyPrompt
Then I see where 1password partnered with Microsoft to use their passkey repository. So for me this is total and absolute confusion. Here are my questions:
- Why doesn't 1password have an option in settings to go off and disable all other password and passkey managers (including Windows)? If not technically possible, why not have a big article that is emailed out to everyone showing them how to do this?
- Does 1password go to every passkey-enabled site to verify it works with 1password?
- Is it required that Windows Hello be disabled for passkeys to be created and stored in 1password without Windows Security prompt popping up (like above)? If so, how to use Windows Hello in order to get into 1Password (other than typing in master password)?
Based on many of the other same type of topics in this forum, it seems I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. Last time I asked, it was 3 months ago saying that 1password team would get an answer and back with me. No response. I really think that 1Password team needs to get together and resolve all of these issues (including communications) and to make it easier for the end-users to save everything to 1Password and not get prompted by anything else for passkeys/passwords.

Hello Froggy! 👋
I'm sorry that you're running into an issue where you're seeing a Windows prompt for passkeys rather than a 1Password prompt. I've merged all of your posts into one thread to keep the conversation in one place.
It looks like you first posted in a thread that was specific to an issue with cathaypacific.com, can you clarify if you were running into an issue on that website when saving or signing in using a passkey? If you did then are you still seeing the issue when using 1Password in the browser version 8.11.14.24: How to keep 1Password up to date in your browser
Can you also make sure that you've followed the steps in this article: Turn off the built-in password manager in your browserI don't have a SiriusXM account to test this myself can you tell me a few other websites where you're running into this issue so that I can take a look? I'd like to know if this affects all websites with passkeys that you're using, or just a few before I ask for more specific information from your end.

Dave, can you try going to https://www.siriusxm.com/player/login
When I go to this page, the Microsoft Security prompts up before I even login.

1P_Dave, it wasn't me having issues logging into cathaypacific.com. :) I just responded at the bottom of the thread.
I'm on 8.11.15.3 on stable channel. Just checked and having the same issue when logging into the main SiriusXM login page: https://www.siriusxm.com/player/loginwww.target.com does the same (pulling up Windows Security) when I click sign in with Passkey (which is option just below the main login screen).
As for the article steps, yes, checked those a few times:Also, no passwords in Edge:

Is there any update on this? It appears that a bunch of passkeys are getting saved to Windows instead of 1Password...even though I trigger the process through 1Password. Need to turn the Windows passkey saving off even though the feature to offer to save passwords and view/fill passwords and passkeys is turned off in Edge.
I looked all over for configuring this properly and can't find anything on the 1P website. This needs to be clearly communicated out to all 1Password subscribers.
