Old (new forum) forum user needs UI help

Hello everybody.  I am a very long term, but not technical, user who is not shall we say a daily visitor to our (new/old) forum.  I've recognized the need and used 1Password since version 3.  The new forum looks very pretty with the tags and endless scroll of posts.  But I really could use some help with the forum.

It seems to always start the the newest post and you have to scroll endlessly again each time on.  There's no Mark Posts Read I'm used to using.  No distinct pages and index to go to.  Just like with old newspapers I find great utility in browsing pages of posts and not being a slave to Search and tags.   I've participated on my BBS's prior, but this seems different to me.

If you saw my own personal 1PW and attempts to Tag you'd know why.  Perhaps there might be a referral to the general use of tags someone might generously provide the would make them useful to use?  Is there some index of Tags like there isn't of Pages?   How do I know what to use because I'm not great at search?  Do I just create any tag I feel like using?  I think that would not work for the community any better than myself.  I do not even see a way on this 1st post to create my own tag.

Well I just wanted to ask for some help and there might even be others that could use it.

Thanks

  • 1P_Julia,

Thank you so much for your helpful navigation suggestions.  1PW support over the years has always proven critical, as I am sure for many, to solving my few intractable issues.  It was one of many significant reasons I continue to be a 1PWuser.  I would greatly appreciate your comments on my understanding your post listed below.

    1. Check.

    Agreed.

    2.  The Tag explanation does help.  It does add to being able to discover some more tags but suggestion already relying on my search deficiency hasn't helped as much.  A Browse capability which I discern different from Search would greatly help.

    3.  Given my own described difficulty using tags in 1PW I strongly agree with your current policy of admins and moderators controlling community tag creation.

    4.  Still agree with snozdop regarding Categories.  There only seems to be 4 Categories and they appear to be listed under Discussions.  As for the rest has already been commented.  Although I certainly agree both features are definitely useful.

    Sincerely appreciate the help,  Click_Really.

  • Hi Click_Really,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback and for being such a long-term supporter of 1Password! We truly appreciate your willingness to engage with the community.

We completely understand how the new forum interface might feel different, especially if you’re used to the older format. Let me try to address your concerns and provide some guidance to make your experience smoother:

    1. Navigating the Forum:

You’re absolutely right that the new forum defaults to showing the latest posts, and the endless scroll can feel overwhelming if you’re used to paginated views. While we don’t currently have a “Mark Posts Read” feature or a traditional page index, I’ll make sure to share your feedback with the team.

    2. Using Tags:

Tags are meant to help organize and find posts more easily, but I totally get that they can feel a bit confusing at first. You don’t need to create your own tags—instead, you can use the existing ones to filter posts. For example, if you’re looking for help with a specific feature, you can click on relevant tags like #getting-started, #troubleshooting, or #tips-and-tricks. If you’re not sure which tags to use, the search bar at the top of the forum can help you find posts related to your topic, and you can then see which tags are commonly used.

    3. Creating Your Own Tags:

Currently, only moderators and admins can create new tags to ensure consistency across the forum. However, if you feel like there’s a tag missing that would be helpful for the community, feel free to reach out to us, and we’d be happy to consider adding it!

    4. General Tips for Browsing:

If you prefer a more structured way to browse, you might find the “Categories” view helpful. It groups posts by topic, making it easier to find what you’re looking for without relying solely on search or tags. Additionally, you can use the “Most Recent”, or “Most Viewed”, or “Most Likes” tabs at the top of the forum to see popular or recent discussions.

Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and I’ll make sure to pass it along to the team as we continue to improve the new community forum experience. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

Thanks again for being part of the 1Password community. We’re lucky to have you here!

If you prefer a more structured way to browse, you might find the “Categories” view helpful.

Where is this Categories view you speak of? I can't find anything labelled Categories anywhere on the forum homepage, in the menus or anywhere else obvious!

The only place I can see Categories is in a box in the sidebar of the opening page of each of the 4 Discussion areas (Lounge, Password Manager, Device Trust, Passage), but that box of 'Categories' is actually just links to tags.

      Any ideas?
