Welcome to the forum, @wooderm! I can't speak for how any of our competitors do it, but we maintain our own Rich Icons server instead of trying to scrape Favicons or something, which are much lower resolution than what we use for Login items in 1Password. When you add a new Login item (presuming you used the recommended method which captures the correct URL) 1Password for Mac will check the server to see whether we have a Rich Icon for that site. We've got a substantial and growing number of sites for which we have Rich Icons, including all the top thousand or so websites (based on traffic), and many more besides that. But we don't have every website on the internet, so the more obscure/out-of-the-way a site is, the less likely it is that we'll have a rich icon for it.
You can add icons for any Login item manually by selecting your image (anything around 250x250 should work fine), then editing the Login item in question and double-clicking the generic image 1Password will have used as a default. This will bring up the picker, and you can simply drag-and-drop your chosen artwork/icon onto it.
You're also welcome to ask us to add Rich Icons for any sites for which we don't currently have them. Just let us know the URL and submit appropriate artwork. Hope that helps! :)

ok thanks for this, ok so a few sites wondering if could be added please.
www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk (seems to picking up the IBM logo!)
www.petdrugsonline.co.ukcan you add company ones in for example;
https://orbit.capita.orbitbenefits.com/idm-ui/login/
so if you have a secondary web page (website 2) will this not pickup the icon? for example my local asus router has internal ip for login, but the main asus web page is https://www.asus.com/uk/ this don't seem to pickup an icon !

@wooderm: with regards to your other question:
so if you have a secondary web page (website 2) will this not pickup the icon? for example my local asus router has internal ip for login, but the main asus web page is https://www.asus.com/uk/ this don't seem to pickup an icon !
If you connect to your router using an IP address, then the rich icon will not be downloaded. This is because you are logging in using an IP address, but rich icons depend on the domain name of a website (in this case, asus.com).
