High windowserver CPU usage on Catalina

I'm running the latest Catalina public beta and noticed really high cpu usage by windowserver on the 1Password lock screen. The problem goes away once I unlock my vault or close the main app window (keeping the helper running is fine).

For what it's worth, this is true in Mojave too. When 1Password is locked, WindowServer uses about 20% CPU on my system.

I think this may be related to the subtle gradient animation in the ring of the 1Password lock logo on this screen. If the team is concerned about this, rendering at a lower framerate (10-15 fps) should help - the animation is so subtle that most people won't notice the difference.

  • Hi folks,

I was able to reproduce this behavior. Thank you for the reports, and the tip about the gradient. I've filed a report with our development team for further investigation.

    Thanks!

    Ben
