Unable to change email on my forum account

I'm unable to change the email on my forum account. When I go to profile and update the email address it then asks for my forum password. After putting in the forum password it then gives an error that says, "Usernames must be 3-20 characters and consist of letters, numbers, and underscores." Even though I'm trying to change the email and not the username.
