Hi @masuk1304:
Thanks for reporting this! I was able to replicate this on my end as well. I noticed that it seems like you may not have 1Password for Safari installed just yet. I was able to use the inline menu to fill a test Login item, rather than using Universal Autofill. Let me know if that improves your state of play for you!

Yes inline autofill using Safari extension works. It will solve the problem. But the issue was raised more from Universal Autofill perspective. Would be a great add / fix if it works like it does for other websites as well flawlessly.

@masuk1304, thanks for letting us know that inline autofill with 1Password for Safari is working for you. With regard to the Universal Autofill perspective, since this is a new feature, we'll be seeing improvements as time goes on. I've added this request to our internal tracker, so the team can take a look. Your report is much appreciated!

Universal Autofill is a new feature insofar as it supports filling in places never before supported. That's great.
But from the user's point of view, it subsumes the role of an old feature — keyboard shortcut based fill in Safari — which used to work reliably and now does not work much of the time.
I realize I can use the extension directly, or the field based autofill provided by the extension, but this is NOT how I have used 1Password for more than a decade.
Universal Autofill is indeed an incredible feature, but the release is tempered by the fact that it has broken my decade+ long workflow, does not have feature parity with 1Password7, and has removed features that I rely on (non 1Password.com vaults.)

Hi @jimcorreia, thanks for offering these thoughts.
A few things I'd like to mention:
- We recognize that there are some improvements we can make in Safari, and are working on it. 👍
- Universal Autofill (which I agree is incredible!) is intended to supplement 1Password in Safari, but we want you to feel at home in the browser with 1Password for Safari too. It's not intended as a replacement.
- While we've maintained continuity with many aspects of 1Password 7, it's worth saying that 1Password 8 is a complete rebuild from the ground up. That provided us with many opportunities to reconsider how things might be done - not just within 1Password itself, but in relation to evolving aspects of the operating systems and browsers that the app interacts with. So in that respect, some things were bound to change.
- However, we recognize that having a workflow that works is important - so if you encounter situations where you're thinking, "this really isn't working for me", please let us know - we want to provide the best possible experience for you.
- Regarding feature parity: there are more updates on the way that will continue to add improvements and new features to 1Password 8, and we're excited to bring to those to you. 🙌 With that said, the decision not support local vaults was an intentional one, and one that we're finding so far has made sense for the majority of folks we hear from - for reasons ranging from data redundancy to item sharing (and more).
If you would like to see a self-hosting option for 1Password 8, we do have a survey open here which I'd welcome you to check out too - we'd like to gauge where the level of demand is for this and how you might find it most useful.
Thanks again for your thoughts here!

Thanks for the response, Peter.
Universal Autofill (which I agree is incredible!) is intended to supplement 1Password in Safari
Really what I want is to be able to reliably autofill via a keyboard shortcut. I don't care what mechanism that happens by (or marketing name it has), I just want to be able to do what I could reliably do with 1Password7.
Ground up rewrites are hard. There's no way around that. (I've participated in a few over the course of my career.)
Regarding standalone vaults — I'll fill out the survey. For the majority of my data, I'm happy to use a 1Password.com account (and do), but I have some data I simply cannot place there due to infosec requirements.

Understood, @jimcorreia, and thanks for sharing your perspective. I'll be happy to follow up on these concerns on your behalf.
We have had some reports that filling in Safari isn't consistent for some folks, and are looking into it now. Thanks for letting us know this is something you encountered - we never want to put obstacles in your way. 👍
