FIDO and 1Password
I’ve been reading about a new alliance among Apple, Microsoft, and Google using a protocol called FIDO to eliminate passwords from their systems, using device-based biometric authentication instead. I assume, given these sponsors, it will quickly become the de facto standard.
Does FIDO mean the end of the need for 1Password, or does 1Password have a role to play in this new standard?
PS: I’m posting in the Mac forum because there doesn’t seem to be a more general place for a question like this, but this is a cross-platform issue.

FIDO2 is already supported by 1Password as a Two-Factor Authentication key! https://support.1password.com/security-key/
That, combined with the option to unlock 1Password at the same time as your OS's screen lock, gets pretty close to the future of not needing to enter passwords much, but both your OS and 1Password still do have a password that you occasionally will need to enter.0 -
1Password is also part of this alliance. 👀
