Changing password in 1pw8 complicated and unintuitive

This is scary
I needed to change a password and ended up manually creating one because I wasn't able to do so automatically
1) Not all options for creating a pw are available as in 1pw7. I needed a pw with a limited number of characters. If this option exists it is skillfully hidden. Mix of letters, characters and numbers is not available
2) You can only edit a pw manually in the main app, not in the mini window
3) It seems you must save a new password before you can use it and make sure it complies with the website requirements. How do you try a new website, entering it twice, before saving it.
4) Why do you have to open and go to the main window to see the password history
5) As I posted elsewhere it is no longer possible to pin the mini window - or if it is I don' see where

How do I revert to 1pw7?

1Password Version: 8.7.0
Extension Version: 2.2.3
OS Version: 11.6.5

  • Hi @tommy:

Were you creating this new password in the main 1Password app, or 1Password in the browser? You can open an item in a new window by choosing the 3 dots on the item and choosing "Open in new window".

It's definitely possibly to revert back to 1Password 7 if you'd like though. Remove 1Password 8 from your Applications folder, then unzip 1Password 7.

    Thanks @Jack.P_1P
I was updating a password, not creating a new one. I tried the icon next to the password in the page of the browser and nothing came up. I tried in the mini (the icon in the browser at the top left of Safari) but there were no three dots. Opening the main window didn't take me to the password I was trying to update. The criteria didn't match the requested one. There was no place to change the length of the password so I had to repeat the creation or do it manually for it to work. After logging in successfully there was no question about creating a new password or updating. I had to look for the password on the main 1pw window but now have two passwords fo the same website: one that no longer works and one that does. I have to delete manually.

I still can't find how to pin a password to the screen from the mini or anywhere else

I dragged 1pw 7 to my desktop. Can I remove 1pw8 and drag 1pw7 back in?

I prefer using the latest version. Do I really get everything wrong?

If you wish to return to 7:

    1. Quit 1Password 8 and drag it to the trash. Do not use an app cleaner for this. Manually completing this step will keep your data safe. * Optional leave it here if you intend on trying 1Password 8 again. It can also be re downloaded later on.
    2. Double click 1Password 7.app.zip in your Applications folder to expand it. You can then remove the zip file from the Applications folder. * If you have removed 1Password 7 it can be downloaded here. Download 1Password for Mac

    - It sounds as if you'll need to move 1Password 7 to your applications folder.
    3. Open Safari and disable 1Password for Safari and enable the 1Password extension (likely version 7.9.4)
    4. Drag 1Password for Safari to the trash. * Optional leave it here if you intend on trying 1Password 8 again. It can also be re downloaded.

Regarding 1Password 8, you can do a pin. It's a little different. Use Universal Access search for the item and use the shortcut of command + o

Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac
