1Password 8 "sluggish" on brand new Mac Studio

Hi Support Team,

I recently upgraded to 1Password 8 and I have the feeling that it runs "sluggish" on a brand new Mac Studio (M1 Max, 10 Cores, 32 GB RAM):

  • when I start the application from the Dock, the UI is blank for several seconds

  • subsequently the Master Password prompt appears with the Touch ID overlay window; however the app is acting in a way that the Touch ID overlay window becomes greyed out (kind of like it is the background window now, even though it is still shown in the foreground), so I have to click it again with the mouse to reactivate it to be able to register my fingerprint

  • 1Password then unlocks, but again it is really slow until it presents the contents of the vault with the passwords

  • browsing through the items and copying passwords works fine, but activating the settings, for example, is really sluggish again

Overall a very unpleasant experience, even though the basic functions of the app do work, of course.

Interestingly I have the same setup on an M1 MacBook Pro 13" (2020 model), which shows the same kind of weird behavior with the Touch ID overlay window that you have to click again to register your fingerprint, but otherwise is a lot faster and less sluggish than one the way more powerful Mac Studio.

Any ideas?

Kind regards

Sebastian

Addendum: deleting the app and all of its associated files from my Mac and starting all over again has solved the "sluggishness" issue. However, the issue with the Touch ID overlay window remains.

  • Hi @Sidewinder:

When the Touch ID dialog is not in focus, by any chance do you have 1Password (or another app) fullscreen? Let me know.

    Hi @Jack.P_1P:

Yep. Exactly! Happens, when 1Password 8 is fullscreen…
Have not checked with other apps.

Are you using different workspaces? I believe I have located our relevant internal tracker on this behavior and would like that confirmation so I can add you to it.

    @ag_tommy:

I am not using different workspaces, just one workspace.
The problem occurs indeed, when 1Password 8 is in fullscreen mode.

On another, somewhat unrelated note: when I reboot my Mac (Mac Studio) and open 1Password 8, it reverts back to a small screen, it does not remember the fullscreen setting. This is slightly annoying. Fortunately, I do not reboot my Mac very often. I do not remember this behavior from previous versions if 1Password.
