Can't sign in on M2 Mac

I have 1password8 freshly installed on an M2 Mac Mini that was installed via TimeMachine migration.

When I try to login it tells me "That didn't work. Check your password and try again"

I have deleted the app, rebooted and reinstalled as suggested here https://1password.community/discussion/136157/migrated-1password-8-to-new-macbook-air-m2-on-ventura-but-encountered-an-issue but to no avail.

I am able to login to my account at my.1password.com without any issues. Same for my iPhone and an M1 MacBook Air, so I know the password is correct and the account is functioning.

  • Hi there @bentrails

We've heard reports of this happening where your account password isn't accepted after migrating from a Time Machine backup. It's not clear right now what's causing it but it seems like the process of migrating might affect 1Password's data folder in some way.

To solve it, you'll need to reset 1Password on your new Mac.

⚠️ Please make sure that you can sign in to 1Password.com and find all the items you would expect before proceeding.

When you're happy that everything is available on 1Password.com, you can follow the instructions shown here to reset 1Password: How to reset the 1Password app on a specific device.

I'll be waiting to hear how you get on. :)

    That worked perfectly, thank you!

Great! As a general rule of thumb, there's no need to back up either the 1Password.app from the Applications folder or your 1Password data (since it's all on 1Password.com), so you can exclude these from Time Machine to help prevent this happening again:

    /Applications/1Password.app
    ~/Library/Group Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password/

Our development team are looking into what Time Machine is doing to 1Password's database when you migrate from it, so I'll add a link to our discussion here to our tracker for their reference. If you run into any trouble in the future, or if you have any questions, we'll be here. :)
