1Password8 not updating with "Restart Now" button

Since updating to 1Password8, I repeatedly see an overlay on my 1Password window stating "1Password will update when you restart the app" and a "Restart Now" button.

My suspicion is that there is an ongoing issue with the update process failing. In particular, I'm currently running 1Password 8.10.3 and 1Password about indicates that 8.10.4 is available. However, whenever I select the "Restart Now" button it does not provide any feedback but the version number does not change. Also, I have never done a clean install of 1Password since upgrading from 1Password7, so my current version number would indicate that at least sometimes the upgrade is completing. I have had this issue since very early in my use of 1Password8.

I've seen a similar issue in a late 2022 thread. However, that had no explanation.

Update to macOS 12.6.5 when possible. Regarding the update process of 1Password is you home user folder on a different drive a /Volume by chance? If so, this is a known issue the team is looking to resolve. Manually installing the update via a new download and running the installer would be the way to update until this is resolved. Please let me know if this fits your situation.

Thanks. Yes, my home directory is on a different volume. Is there a workaround?

Also, macOS Software Update doesn't offer me macOS 12.6.5. I'll have to investigate that.

The only two suggestions I can offer are one to install manually, by running the installer, like a new install. I also show the resolution is being tried in our beta. You could optionally use the beta. To be clear you would need to update manually to the beta and then from there you should receive updates normally. I'm not sure of your type of environment. Some folks are not interested in betas but if you're open to it, the following will help get you on the beta.

    Use 1Password beta releases

Thank you, this was the clue which provided a workaround. I do have an admin account on the boot volume (APFS SSD). Once I used that to update 1Password, my user account which is on a raid volume for storage and speed needs no longer has the issue. So until the beta is in public release, when prompted in the user account, I will just do updates in the admin account. I do the same for macOS updates so it's not an issue now that I know what was causing it.

I'm happy to hear that you were able to find a workaround that works for you. If the fix that our developers have developed for the issue that Tommy mentioned passes our testing process then we hope to include it in a future update as soon as possible.
