iOS Quick fill autofill regression

iOS 16.4.1 (20E252)
1Password 8.10.6

I am not sure of the exact version. However, sometime in the recent versions the native iOS autofill using quick fill bar stopped working. I have tested toggling on and off. I actually reverted back to using 1Password 7 which does work.

  • Hello @snowy! 👋

I'm sorry that you're not seeing suggestions from 1Password. Just to clarify: are you not seeing the suggestions in the AutoFill prompt above the keyboard after you tap on a username/password field in another app? If you tap on the Passwords prompt (or the key icon) above the keyboard then do you see the right suggestion in the limited version of 1Password 8 that opens?

If you don't then please make sure that you've enabled 1Password 8 for AutoFill:

    1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Passwords > Password Options.
    3. Turn on AutoFill Passwords.
    4. Select 1Password.

Then try to fill your login again using this guide: Use 1Password to fill and save on your iPhone and iPad

Yup I have toggled between 1p7 and 1p8. Same account and vaults. And this previously worked on 1p8

    1p7

    1p8 - broken

Thank you for the screenshots. I created a test login item for that website and I do see "for this website - 1Password" above my keyboard when using 1Password 8 for iOS.

Can you try turning AutoFill off and then back on one more time using these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password.
    2. Tap the icon for your account or collection at the top left and choose Settings.
    3. Tap AutoFill.
    4. Turn AutoFill off and then back on.
    5. Make sure that "Show filling suggestions" is turned on.

If that still doesn't work then are you not seeing suggestions for any website? Or are you still seeing them for some websites?

Correct. It is all websites that I’ve tried. And I confirmed that I have on showing suggestions. I’ve switch back-and-forth between 1password version seven and version eight a few times because one password version seven has been working

Thank you for the reply. Could you try these specific steps in order which worked for a colleague of mine who ran into the same issue:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password 8.
    2. Tap the icon for your account or collection at the top left and choose Settings. (If you’re using an iPad, tap your account or collection at the top of the sidebar.)
    3. Tap AutoFill.
    4. Turn "Show filling suggestions" off.
    5. Fully close 1Password 8 on iOS from the app
    6. Open and unlock 1Password 8 for iOS again and turn "Show filling suggestions" back on.

If that doesn't change anything then I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your iOS device:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

The report will be in zip format. Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

Ok - so I had to go to settings =>Passwords => password options=>1Password to turn on and off suggestions. I had to tap it twice to get the toggle to work. Attached a video of the behavior. You will notice you have to tap the toggle twice.

This appears to have worked. Turning off suggestions quitting 1P toggling back on and re-launching 1P

    Edit:can’t post video

I'm happy to hear that turning suggestions off and then back on resolved the issue for you. We'll keep an eye out for further reports of users having to tap the toggle twice.

I've also added your report of the issue to our internal work item so that our developers can look into avoiding this issue in the first place.

Awesome 😎. Just so I know in case I have an issue again. is that expected way to reset autofill as you noted above is making sure you turn off suggestions and quit 1P?

  • @snowy

When using Password AutoFill in iOS, the 1Password app shouldn't be running into this issue and our developers will look into how to avoid the problem in the future without the user having to do anything manually. But, for now, if you do run into the issue again then following the steps that I listed above would indeed be the right workaround. 🙂
