Thank you for adding your report, I've let our developers know that you're also affected by the issue. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I have my my M1 Macbook, Mac OS 13.4.1 Ventura set to logout after x minutes (security requirement for work) This used to work fine, but recently the logout fails with an error the 1Password failed to quit. If I log out by hand there is no issue, it is just the automatic time-out logout that fails. This is a problem, because 1Password is compromising security!

    Hi
I'm also affected by this issue. My Mac mini with M2 Pro chip is scheduled to shut down and fails because of 1Password.
    Greetings

    Version 8.10.7

I am also seeing this issue.

  • @benedickmiller, @Hyperion1337, and @jonathancohlmeyer

Thank you for adding your reports, a fix has been coded for the issue and is currently being tested. We hope to release it as soon as possible.

For now, if you right click on the 1Password icon from the macOS menu bar and then click Quit you'll be able to shutdown the Mac without experiencing the pop up. I'm sorry for the inconvenience that the issue is causing.

@Dave_1P thanks for looking in to this. FYI - the issue does not arise (for me) when shutting down or logging out by hand, so no need to quit 1Password in those cases. The issue is only when my Mac attempts to log out automatically, after a specified period of inactivity, as set in settings.

HAVING same issue on my macOS

  • @benedickmiller

Thank you for those additional details.

    @bodean

Our developers are working on a fix to be released as soon as possible and I'm sorry for the trouble. For the time being, please see my previous comment for a workaround: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/690392/#Comment_690392

Thanks for posting the Support ID. I don't believe that our developers need any more diagnostics reports at this time but thanks for sending one in. A fix has been coded and we hope to release it as soon as possible.

    @benedickmiller

All that I'm seeing in your post is a "-", can you clarify if you had a question that I could help with? 🙂

@Dave_1P my "-" was because I wanted to delete the comment, but could not see how to :)

I was going to say that the workaround does not really help, as the issue is only an issue when I leave my MacBook unattended. If I logout or shutdown by hand I have no issue. I guess if you mean the workaround is to quit 1Password every-time I leave my MacBook unattended, then yes I guess that would work, but sadly I will forget!

  • @benedickmiller

Thanks for clarifying. The workaround can help those who manually logout or shut down their Mac. Hopefully our developers can get the issue fixed as soon as possible.

1Password has become a flakey app on the Mac for me now. It's been 40+ days and it won't allow an automated shutdown. I have removed 1Password from the menu bar- but now when clicking on it in Safari- it prompts for password (to start 1P), then password again (to launch in browser), and sometimes a 3rd time! I'm also running beta software but I sure wish this could be fixed. The previous version had no problems for me.

  • @jsclarke99

The fix for the issue hasn't yet made it into an update but we hope to release it soon. I'm sorry for the frustration.

For your situation, as a temporary workaround if you'd like to keep the 1Password app closed until the issue is fixed, you can turn app integration off to just use the browser extension without the app:

    1. Open Safari.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in Safari and click Settings.
    3. Turn off "Integrate with 1Password app".

Note: if you turn app integration off then you'll need to unlock the app and the extension separately and you'll need to unlock the extension using your account password.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone with the "Your Mac hasn't logged out because "1Password" failed to quit" issue. I hope you are prioritizing a fix and will let us know when we can apply it.

  • @ijpooledc

We'll make sure to update this thread when the fix is released. Thank you for your patience.

Getting this same issue on MacOS Sonoma Beta (but had it before I was in the beta as well)

  • @thewon

If you're on the Sonoma beta then you'll most likely also want to use our beta. It's not required, but you'll likely see improvements quicker for any bleeding edge issues from the macOS betas. Also, the resolution for the shutdown issue is in our beta. Please let me know if you experience this again if you use our beta. I updated to the Sonoma public beta this weekend and I have not experienced the issue, nor did I while using our beta/nightly and on Ventura.

Same here on 12.6.7 with 1password 8.10.8 on Intel Mac Mini 2020

  • @matthias.link.77

If you're interested in the beta it may help. If not, I hope we'll be able to get a resolution out to the production channel sooner rather than later. Thank you for your report. I've added it to our issue tracker.

I'm seeing this problem, as well. I've seen it many times but only posting about it now.

    Wondering if uninstall/reinstall helps?

    Mac Studio M1
    macOS Ventura 13

  • @kevinashworth

Do you continue to experience this behavior on the latest version or 1Password? Please check for updates if you've not already done so.

We’ve fixed an issue that prevented 1Password from quitting on system shutdown or restart.

Ha! I have not seen the error recur since I upgraded immediately after your message, @ag_tommy. It was a tiny upgrade, from 8.10.8 to 8.10.9, but my Mac Studio has restarted multiple times now without showing me the "unresponsive app" popup.

  • Thank you for the good news. If something changes please let us know.
