Very small 1Password icon in Dock

See the screenshot. The icon remains in Dock after the app is terminated.

Seems to be related to https://1password.community/discussion/134906/tiny-1-pixel-macos-dock-icon

One oddity that's currently happening is that I cannot unlock 1P via the extension: when I press the extension button in Safari's toolbar it briefly shows its pop up window saying Loading... then it disappears and 1Password's main window launches instead asking for a password; once password is entered this windows disappears but nothing happens; 1P extension remains locked as clicking the extension button again just repeats this sequence.

1Password Version: 8.10.7
Extension Version: 2.11.0
OS Version: 13.4
Browser: Safari 16.5

    Done. But I did not receive a replay from the bot.

    It's a wild guess, but it appears that this behavior is triggered by the unlocking via Apple Watch. Consider the following scenario when unlock 1P from the Safari extension:

    • On the first day I use Apple Watch to unlock 1P Extension
    • On the second day I don't have the watch: 1P Extension detects this and asks for password instead, but after accepting the password it doesn't unlock; I'm forced to open the app and unlock there, which gets detected by the extension
    • On the third day I have the watch with me: 1P Extension detects this, the native dialog gets presented and after I do the manipulations on the watch the extension unlocks

    In addition, I have the following error in Console.app:

    ```
    I'm sorry to hear that you're still having trouble unlocking 1Password in the browser. I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:
    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)
    Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.
    With your email please include:
    Please send the entire file.
    You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!
    Alright, the 1P unlocking broke again: cannot unlock from extension, have to open the app and unlock there before autofill in the browser starts to work again.
  • Kentzo
    I'm happy to hear that the Terminal command resolved the issue. Let us know if you run into the issue again in the future. 🙂
    The icon appears to be a visual nuisance only. It's not clickable nor there is a hover title. It did not replace the normal 1Password app icon, it co-existed with it.
    I think this is the case that 1Password did something that left Dock in that configuration. Perhaps an imporperly terminated the process for the update.
    I fixed the tiny icon by running killall Dock in the Terminal app.
  • Kentzo
    Can you try replacing the Dock icon? That icon is so small. You might be able to just grab it if you're careful. In all my years around here, I don't ever recall this one. You have me scratching my head a little bit.
    1. Remove the current icon from the Dock buy dragging it off of the Dock. The app will need to be quit for this action.
    2. Open the replaced application from the Applications folder and when you see the icon appear in the Dock, right-click and select keep in Dock.
    3. Drag the icon to the desired placement.
    4. Open, if desired.
    That helped with unlocking, but closing the browser is very annoying.
    However, the tiny icon is still there.
  • Hello Kentzo! 👋
    I'm sorry that you're seeing a tiny version of the 1Password app. The user in the other thread noted a Terminal command that worked for them, have you tried it? If you haven't then try these steps:
    1. Open the Terminal app on your Mac: Open or quit Terminal on Mac - Apple Support
    2. Type in: killall Dock
    3. Press Enter.
    The Dock should close and then re-open. Do you still see the small icon?
    One oddity that's currently happening is that I cannot unlock 1P via the extension: when I press the extension button in Safari's toolbar it briefly shows its pop up window saying Loading... then it disappears and 1Password's main window launches instead asking for a password; once password is entered this windows disappears but nothing happens; 1P extension remains locked as clicking the extension button again just repeats this sequence.
    This might be a separate issue from the small icon. Can you try these steps:
    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Settings.
    4. Click on General.
    5. Make sure that "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" is turned on.
    Then I'd like you to close and reopen both 1Password and your browser by following these steps:
    1. Close all open web browsers.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon at the top of your Mac's screen and then click Quit. Wait until the icon disappears.
    3. Double-click on 1Password from your Mac's Application folder.
    4. Open your web browser.
    Let me know if that fixes the issue. I look forward to hearing from you. 🙂
    -Dave
