1Password Browser Helper won't quit

I have the 1Password extension turned off in both installed browsers (Safari & Chrome), but the helper process won't quit, or force quit. Any ideas on how to force it to quit?

    Hello @LarryMcJ! 👋

Can you tell me a little more about why you're trying to quit the "1Password Browser Helper" process? Is there an issue that you're running into that you hope to fix by quitting the process?

"1Password Browser Helper" is spawned and kept running if you have app integration turned on in the 1Password for Mac app. You can turn off app integration by following these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Settings.
    4. Click on Browser.
    5. Turn off "Connect with 1Password in the browser".

Once turned off, the "1Password Browser Helper" process will close.

None, other than I'm going to be using something else until all the current issues with 1P get ironed out. I'm sure they will, but in the interim, I'd like this process to not be running. Yes, I know it doesn't hurt anything, but it should quit when asked nicely...it doesn't 🙂 Thanks for the stepped info.

I'm sorry to hear that you might be planning to leave 1Password. If you are running into issues that you haven't already raised in other threads, that you'd like some more help with, then the team would be happy to get things working for you or to report those issues to our development team.

Did following the steps in my previous reply allow you to end the "1Password Browser Helper" process? If they didn't then let me know.

"Leave"? You can't get rid of me that easily, not after 17 years 🙂. In fact, I probably won't uninstall anything, but just use Keychain on all my devices for a while in hopes a future update fixes the known iOS issues. I have to use 1Password on my iPhone far more than macOS, hence the problem.

I decided to not worry about the running process. Thanks for the explanation, though...it's now in Apple Notes so I don't have to ask again!

  • I'm glad that I misunderstood and that you're sticking around. We really appreciate your long-time use of 1Password and your contributions and participation here in the community. 😊

Hopefully we'll get those iOS issues resolved soon.

Well...that lasted all of 48 hours! Better to live with a good password manager that has a few "issues" than trying to use an inferior password manager that's working perfectly! 🙂

  • We're glad to have you back. 😁
