Zoom Password Generated by 1P Unacceptable
Hi,
Today I received an email from Zoom informing me that my password may have been compromised and I needed to reset it. When I tried using the 1Password suggestion it was rejected.
Thought you'd want to know. There could be a lot of Zoom users updating their passwords now.

Hey @MikeA01730, thanks for reaching out.
I attempted to reproduce the issue you encountered but Zoom accepted the suggested passwords. To confirm, did you have the "Smart Password" option set in the password generator?
Thanks for your assistance here.

Hi Ali,
I couldn't find the screen you show. I looked all over Settings but I didn't see it. I just making a Zoom password again. In the Windows 1P app I select the Zoom password entry, click on the password field, see Create a New Password button, click it, and see three choices: Random Password (checked), Memorable Password, and PIN Code. None of the choices are Smart Password. As I recall that's what I did before but I could be wrong. Here's an image:

One other thing. The password (from 1P history) was probably [redacted] or maybe [redacted].

Thanks for the reply. I removed the passwords from your last comment just in case.
My colleague Ali was referring to the password generator found in the browser extension, which has the Smart Password feature. You can access it by following these steps:
- Make sure that 1Password is installed in your browser: Get to know 1Password in your browser
- Go to the Zoom website.
- Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar.
- Click on the menu icon (to the left of the New Item button) and then click Password Generator.
- Make sure that Type is set to "Smart Password".
- Copy the password to the clipboard or fill it on the page. Make sure to save it in 1Password.
Let me know if that doesn't work.

Hi Dave,
When I follow that procedure it does work, probably. It generates a password that I think is acceptable to Zoom. The Type was already set to "Smart Password".
This is confusing. It appears that the password generator I used originally is a different generator from the one in the method you described, right? If so this seems like a strange UI design. The method I used is offered to me at the right time in the app (good) and it saves the password for me (good), but it generates a non-smart password that may fail (bad). The method you describe isn't offered to me (bad), I have to know it's there and look for it (bad), and I have to save the password manually (bad), but it provides the smart password that I need (good).
Please suggest to the developers that the UI design would be much more usable and rational if the same password generator was used in both places and it could generate smart passwords.
Thanks,

Hello again @MikeA01730,
Thanks for your valuable feedback regarding the missing
Type
Smart Password in the 1Password app. I'm sorry for any confusion this has caused. I've included this feedback for our Product team.Since the extension's password generator was already set to the smart password type, you could try following the steps in this guide and change the password for applicable accounts in your browser:
If you have any other suggestions or feedback, please let us know and we'd be happy to pass it along.
