Any way to disable the ctrl+' hotkey?

Heya, I'm on a Norwegian keyboard and just started using 1Password, but immediately ran into an issue.

I use VS Code in my work, and make much use of the hotkey (ctrl + ') to toggle line comments. I have not been able to find this hotkey listed anywhere in the 1Password settings or menus (for the record I did check the "Help -> Keyboard shortcuts" popup).

Depending on the 1Password state, pressing this hotkey does a few different things:

Locked but running in the background from startup:
Open 1Password-window and ask for password or open a Windows Hello prompt.

Unlocked but running in the background:
Nothing happens.

Unlocked and not in focus:
Nothing happens.

Unlocked and in focus
Nothing happens.

Is there any way to disable this hotkey, or indeed change any of the keybindings for 1Password apart from the basic ones found in "Settings -> General"?

  • Hello @magnarok,

Thanks for your message and sorry for the troubles you are encountering with the (Ctrl + ') shortcut on a Norwegian keyboard.

It's only possible modify the global 1Password keyboard shortcuts as mentioned.

As a test, if you open and unlock 1Password and try the (Ctrl + ') shortcut in a browser, on a login page for an item you have saved, does this autofill your username and password?

If this is the case, based on your description of what happens and due to the differences in keyboard layout, I'm wondering if this is related the Autofill shortcut which is (Ctrl + \) by default.

As a next step, try visiting the Settings () > General and changing or clearing the Autofill shortcut to see if this helps when attempting to use (Ctrl + ') in VS Code?

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Wonderful! You are absolutely right, it does in fact autofill in browser, and disabling the hotkey has solved my issue.

    Thank you so much!

  • Hello again @magnarok,

You're most welcome! I'm happy to hear this was the case and disabling this shortcut helped to solve this issue.

    Have a great day!
