Default view on PC/Windows

On my Android phone, I have the option of any of these being my start-up view of Logins on 1Password (v. 2.13.10): Frequently Used, Favorites, Recently Used, or Recently Created. On my PC (MSWindows 10Home) I only see Favorites as another option to view my Logins, besides alphabetical. Are there any other options to sort my start up view on the PC? Thx.

  • Hi there @AudB

1Password for Windows (or Mac or Linux) doesn't have a Home or Items tab like 1Password for Android (or iOS) do, since they're aimed at different device types.

However, because the sidebar is always visible in 1Password on your computer, you can customise what it contains:

    Use the sidebar in 1Password

You can include (or exclude) Categories or Tags for faster access to these. Otherwise, Search is likely to be the quickest way to find something: Search in the 1Password app to find what you need.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or would like any further help. :)

Thank you, Grey, but when I follow the directions under the "Use the sidebar in 1Password" link above, there is no "Always Show in Sidebar" option under Appearance, as it says there will be. Rather, Appearance has "Match System", "Dark" and "Light" as options. What else should I try?

  • Hi @AudB

You should be able to find the options mention by Grey at the bottom of the Appearance tab in your 1Password for Windows desktop app settings:

1Password for Windows settings for appearance

Let us know if you see something different.

I do see something different, I didn't mention that I use the 1Password Extension on both my PC and Android phone, does that matter? This is what I see:

    Hello @AudB,

Thanks for getting back to us. While these setting menu's look similar, you provided screenshots of the extension's settings. Try this instead:

    1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
    2. Find, open, and unlock the 1Password app. (This will be located near the top of the list of applications)
    3. Click the vertical ellipsis () and select Settings or (Ctrl + Comma (,)).
    4. You'll find these options under the Appearance tab as displayed in Tim's previous reply:

Please let us know if you have any further troubles.

When I do what you say to do, ag_mike_d it doesn't change anything. AAMOF, Tags was already checked under Always Show in Sidebar. And if I uncheck it, nothing changes.

Tags are not supported by the browser extension. They simply don't show up. You're only able to select the predefined categories for grouping.

Because of this, I'm using the desktop app for managing items exclusively. The only view in the extension I use is suggestions, and sometimes favorites. This also makes the extension not feasible to be used as browser favorites substitute.

To navigate the web, I'm using the browser internal favorites function to store my website urls. Whenever a website asks for a login, the browser extension automatically finds the correct login from 1Password and offers autofill, which I accept. That's about the only interaction I use with the browser extension: confirming the autofill offer. For serious work beyond that, the browser extension window is simply too small and it's not possible to move it, so I'm using desktop app for everything else.

  • Hello again @AudB,

Thanks for getting back to us.

@Tertius3, as always, we appreciate the follow up message here. I also use the extension and app in a very similar manner as mentioned.

They are correct in that the extension does not support tags. Tags can be used and organized through either the app or on 1Password.com (or .ca/.eu):

Please let us know if you have any further questions that we can assist with. We'll be here and happy to help!
