Edit in 1Password for Safari takes you to wrong item

I was also able to observe and replicate this behavior in Safari on iPhone and iPad.
1Password Browser Extension Version: 2.20.0 22000002, im Kanal STABLE
1Password iOS/ iPadOS Version: 1Password for iPadOS 8.10.26 81026039, im Kanal „PRODUCTION“
iPadOS: iPadOS 17.3.1 (21D61)0 -
I'm sorry that you're seeing the wrong item being opened in 1Password when using Safari on your iPhone. Just to confirm, are these the steps that you're using to reproduce the issue:
- Open Safari to any website and tap the AA button in the address bar (If you're using your iPad tap on 1Password icon in the address bar.)
- Search for an item and then tap on an item.
- Tap on the three-dot menu and then tap Edit.
- Tap Open.
If these are the correct steps then I do see a known issue that our developers are currently looking into on iOS. It's distinct from the issue in the thread that you originally posted in so I've split your comment into a new thread.
If the steps that you're using to reproduce the issue are different then please let me know. 🙂

I have just realized that I seem to have a different problem than the original post. In fact, the steps you described are the same and correct.
However, the item is not edited directly in the browser but a pop-up dialog to open the 1Password app appears (Open this page in "1Password"?). If I then tap on open, the 1Password app opens, but not to this entry and the editing mode, but only opens the "Objects" tab.

What I'm also wondering is that by design, tapping "Edit" on an entry in the 1Password browser extension automatically redirects to the main app (i.e. in iOS to the iOS 1Password app, on macOS to the macOS app)? Is it not possible to edit an item in the browser extension directly? I understand that there are more options for editing here, but I still find it strange that it is not possible to edit the entries in the browser extension itself. In terms of conformity with expectations, I would therefore suggest renaming the "Edit" button to "Edit in 1Password app". Then it becomes clearer why the action is continued in the app.

Thanks for the reply. It is indeed by design that tapping Edit will take you to the 1Password app. The browser extension doesn't currently include the ability to edit items itself.
I've passed your suggestion along to the team. 🙂

Hi Dave, thanks for forwarding this!
Nevertheless, it seems to be a bug, at least with iOS and iPadOS, that the 1Password app is opened but only the overview of all objects and not directly in the edit mode of the selected entry. Can you also replicate this behavior on your end?
- Open Safari to any website and tap the AA button in the address bar (If you're using your iPad tap on 1Password icon in the address bar.)
- Search for an item and then tap on an item.
3 Tap on the three-dot menu and then tap Edit. - Tap Open. => It is not this specific entry in the 1Password app that opens, but only the "Objects" tab.

By the way, what does happen if a user only has the browser extension installed and not the desktop version of 1Password (for iOS these are bundled, I think)?
What will happen if users click „edit“ in that case. Sine no application opens, will they be somehow made aware that they have to edit an item e.g. on 1Password.com website vault. Or will they just run into an error?
I can’t test this out right now - so I was just wondering how it looks in that case, usability wise.0 -
Thanks for the reply. I can't personally reproduce the Items screen opening but I am seeing inconsistent behaviour that our developers are investigating. I've added your report to the internal work item for the investigation so that our developers are aware.
By the way, what does happen if a user only has the browser extension installed and not the desktop version of 1Password (for iOS these are bundled, I think)?
On the iPhone and iPad, items will open in the 1Password for iOS app for editing. On the desktop, if the desktop app is installed, they'll open in 1Password for Mac (or Windows/Linux). If the desktop app isn't installed then the item will be opened in the browser using the 1Password.com web app.
