"Browser extension needed to restart" several times per day since SSO enabled

We recently enabled SSO (Sign in with Microsoft) for 1Password in my company. It could be a coincidence, but ever since we did so my normal web browsing experience gets interrupted several times per day by a tab saying "The 1Password browser extension needed to restart" getting opened on top of whatever I was doing.

Apart from the underlying issue of why this is suddenly happening several times per day since we've introduced SSO, the way this is happening is quite intrusive and annoying. It just happens randomly while doing things on the web, which could include focused reading or writing reports, notably while not even interacting with 1Password or it's browser extension. Also it seems that 1Password is usually working just fine when this happens/happened.

Is there anything I can do about this?

1Password Version: 8.10.30
Extension Version: 2.22.1
OS Version: Ubuntu 22.04.4
Browser: Chrome 124.0.6367.78

  • Hello @danpr! 👋

I'm sorry that you're repeatedly seeing a message that says "The 1Password browser extension needed to restart". As a first step can you try the following:

    1. Update 1Password in the browser to version 2.23.1
    2. Restart your device.

If you still see the issue after completing these steps then, to investigate further, I'd like to ask you to send in a console log the next time that the issue occurs:

Attach the file to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.
