Cannot unlock Safari extension

Hi 1Password team,
I hope you're doing well! Hoping for some guidance with an error I'm receiving on Mac with the Safari extension. While I seem to have various errors that prevent me from being able to use 1Password regularly, I'm not sure I've seen this one before (at least not recently). Here's what's happening on all sites & fields in Safari:

^ I went to fill my username and password into a webform by clicking the 1PW icon on the right of the field. It didn't do anything -- didn't open, didn't throw an error, nothing. Having struggled with it being unresponsive before, I thought I knew what to do -- I clicked the 1PW icon in the toolbar:

^ The 1PW Safari extension window expanded, but when I clicked the "Open 1Password" button, nothing happened.

I tried repeatedly on multiple sites and it didn't work.

I then went to the Desktop app, and that was working fine - I can manually copy + paste my credentials. I went to the help menu to try to get logs to look at (and send you), and I found this:

^ I had never seen that "Fix Missing Safari Extension" button before so I tried clicking it -- and it did nothing apparent.

I have not tried restarting the browser and will do that after I post this -- while that may fix it, it kind of defeats the point. I get these kinds of issues in 1Password frequently and I'm trying to figure out if the software is reliable enough for me to keep using without frequent restarts, re-authentications, etc. I'll keep you posted if that does resolve it though.

Any thoughts on what I could do to fix this permanently?

Thanks!

For what its worth, I noticed that this version of the 1Password app was released (or at least downloaded on my system) today, so part of me wonders if this has to do with (a) a bug in the new version, (b) a bug originating from an update having occurred (e.g., breaking the link between the app and Safari extension) requiring a restart?

  • When an update occurs it may break established communications. A restart of 1Password and the browser will often correct this.
