Safari on iOS opens new tab to ask for the 1Password

When I tap on the little 1Password icon in the username field on Safari iOS to unlock 1Password on any website, a new tab is opened asking me to „Open this site in 1Password?“. And than the 1Password overlay to enter the password is shown.

Is this a bug or can I change some setting so there is no new tab and the 1Passwort prompt opens on the same page?

  • Hello @PureJonathan! 👋

I'm sorry that you're seeing an expected message when using 1Password for Safari. It looks like 1Password for Safari is having trouble authenticating. Please try the following steps:

    1. Fully close Safari on iOS.
    2. Fully close 1Password on iOS.
    3. Open and unlock the main 1Password app from your home screen.
    4. Open Safari and go to any webpage.
    5. Tap on the AA icon in the address bar.
    6. Tap on 1Password in the menu.
    7. Follow the prompt to unlock 1Password for Safari.

Then try to fill a login. Does this resolve the issue or do you see the same message? I look forward to hearing from you.

Step 3 does „solves“ the issue, so that no new tab is opened. But I wanted to use the little icon in the username field.

All in all it’s just a little inconvenience.

  • @PureJonathan

Thank you for the reply. Did you follow the list of steps and complete all 7 of them? At the end of the list of steps you should be able to see the 1Password icon in a login field after tapping on that field:

I did all 7 steps. The issue that I am having is not that the little icon doesn’t appear. The issue is: when I tap it, the 1passwort prompt opens in a new tab.

I'm sorry that the steps didn't resolve the issue. I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your iOS device:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

    Sure.

But how do I create an diagnostic report on iOS? Google didn’t give me an answer.

  • @PureJonathan

The steps on how to create a diagnostics report for 1Password on iOS can be found here: How to send a 1Password diagnostics report

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Ah 1Passwort diagnostic report, not iOS.
