Touch ID with Safari Extension (beta Desktop app, prod Safari Extension)

I said all of this in the screen recording which I have linked, but I'll give you a run down of the info:

Unable to get a beta version of the safari extension. Followed link from your web page and it opens TestFlight app but says there is a problem.

macOS Sequoia Beta, beta version of 1Password Mac App

when I try to fill out a web form, prompts to unlock the Safari extension but does not give me the option/ability to use Touch ID. I have to use a workaround which is to click on the menu bar icon, unlock with Touch ID, then find the 1Password password and paste it into the unlock screen for the Safari extension.

1Password Version: 8.10.39 81039002, on BETA channel
Extension Version: 2.26.1
OS Version: macOS 15 Beta (24A5298h)
Browser: Safari

I have linked to a screen recording to show the issue occurring. I am running macOS Sequoia public beta, 1Password Desktop beta, and Safari browser extension prod. I show at the end of my screen recording that I have been unable to get a beta version of the Safari extension when clicking the link from your beta downloads page. It opens the TestFlight app but says there was a problem.

The main issue I'm pointing out here is that when I try to fill out a webform, it says to unlock 1Password in the browser. The extension shows the password field for my 1Password password, but does not have the option or ability to use Touch ID. I have shown my current workaround in my screen recording, which isn't all that big of a deal, and simple enough. But would certainly prefer that Touch ID would be able to be used to unlock the browser extension.

As mentioned in the screen recording, I'm sure your team is actively testing and working on this, but figured it couldn't hurt to provide the feedback.

    Thanks for your awesome application!

  • Hello @brevmad! 👋

Thank you for reporting an issue that you ran into with 1Password for Safari on the macOS Sequoia beta. I'm not running the beta version myself but the Testflight link is working for me on the stable version of macOS. Can you try this direct link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/wdCBan7N

Do other TestFlight links, from other services work? Are you only running into the issue with 1Password?

when I try to fill out a web form, prompts to unlock the Safari extension but does not give me the option/ability to use Touch ID.

It sounds like communication between the 1Password extension in your browser and the 1Password for Mac app has broken down. Our developers are investigating an issue with 1Password and folks who use multiple Safari profiles (as I see you do in the video that you've provided) and I suspect that you're running into this issue.

Can you try the following steps:

    1. First, make sure that app integration is turned on for 1Password in the desktop app: 1Password > Settings > Browser > Connect with 1Password in the browser.
    2. Open Safari's Settings page
    3. Go to the Extension tab
    4. Deselect 1Password for Safari on the list and re-select it
    5. Refresh the web page and test it again

Does that allow you use Touch ID with 1Password for Safari?
