Credit Card autofill invisibly fails on Washington Gas (my.washingtongas.com)

Autofilling the payment information on the My Washington Gas bill payment page appears to successfully (not correctly) fill all fields based on the light blue background and mostly correct fields. The payment is declined and the credit card provider (almost certainly) incorrectly reports that the three digit code was incorrectly entered.
Closer inspection of the autofilled fields shows that the Month was not changed from the initial value of January.

Further testing including the three digit code, which I entered manually and is obscured (•••), was not possible after the successful payment since the payment page is no longer accessible.

I recall no previous difficulties with previous payments made with autofilled details on this site.

    @EvonG1P Thank you for following up.
    I am aware that the page is only accessible by Washington Gas customers with an outstanding bill, which excludes me for another month. If the problem persists, then I will try to collect this information, but until then this may just serve as a description of this unusual case for others who encounter it.

  • @AJCxZ0,

    Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the update and I look forward to hearing back from you.

    @EvonG1P,

    1. Opened and filled Home in an Incognito session
    2. Clicked [ MAKE PAYMENT ] which doesn't link to, but loads Make Payment
    3. Collected page structure
    4. Manually chose payment options in the form
    5. Clicked Name on Card field to offer Card choice from 1Password
    6. Clicked card to autofill form and OK in the modal to fill

    This time it appeared that the form was correctly autofilled, including Month. Filling ZIP code and clicking [ NEXT ] and [ SUBMIT ] on the Review And Confirm page resulted in a successful payment.

    Since the problem was not reproducible by me or reproduced by anyone else, we can conclude that the problem was gremlins and requires no further analysis.

  • @AJCxZ0,

    Thank you for reporting back! I'm glad you did not encounter the issue when making the payment. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with. 🙂
