Problem with Multiple Monitors

I am using 1Password version 4.0.2 (402002) on MacOS 10.8.5 with Firefox 24.0. I have two external monitors and my MacBook internal display running simultaneously. When I use the 1Password Firefox extension, the second subwindow extends onto the next monitor to the right. I prefer that all of the windows remain on the original monitor. This wouldn't be a huge problem, except that my monitors are not the same size, so some of the window is not visible on the next monitor over.

1Password should either determine the size and placement for the next monitor over or (preferably) show the second subwindow on the original monitor.

I am having a different problem with multiple monitors. When using command-/ to look for logins in my web browser, It is opening the mini-1password interface instead of the browser interface for 1password. I use Safari on the 2nd monitor, but mini-1password is on my first monitor. How can I get the keyboard shortcut to open the 1password lookup IN the web browser, on my 2nd monitor?

Your problems may be related to the following known issue:

If you're using multiple displays, using CMD+\ may bring up 1Password mini on the wrong screen.

On the other hand, I apologise if I've not correctly understood the problems!

That's not the same problem. In Firefox, when I click on the 1Password icon, the menu pops up. Then if I click on on item that pops up a sub-menu, it tries to display it on the next screen over to the right. It should behave the same as if there were only one screen and show the sub-menu to the left of the main menu.

I have the same problem. In Mavericks it is even worse because it doesn't show at all in the second screen, just goes off the right side of the screen where it is unusable.

    Here is a screenshot:

Mavericks defaults to each monitor being in a separate Space. This is what enables you to have full screen apps in multiple monitors, but one of the costs is that windows cannot span screens. If you change this (I think it's in Mission Control preferences but I haven’t installed Mavericks yet so I'm not sure) then you might be able to see the rest of the child window on the adjacent monitor.

Not an ideal solution; just a work-around until AgileBits fixes the problem.

  • Hi guys,

This is the setting that @benfdc is referring to:

Do you have that checked or unchecked?

Hi MikeT, I have that box checked, but not checking it is not an option for me, surely you can just display the popouts on the other side just like when using a single monitor?

I have a Macbook Pro with an external thunderbolt monitor. I run with both the laptop screen and the bigger monitor. With Firefox, if I have the window on the bigger monitor it works fine but if it is on the laptop the window that opens from the installed browser extension tries to display logins and other menu items off the monitor to the right.

    Hi @aussieskibum,

I'm sorry to hear that you're running into this bug. Our developers are working on improving the Mini's behaviour on multiple monitors, we really appreciate your patience as we work to sort this out!

    Hi guys

I have the exact same problem in Mavericks, and it's extremely annoying. It happens with both 1Password Mini and the Chrome extension in my external monitor + retina MBP setup. In short, I use my browser on the external display on the left and the popups extend to the right across the monitor. Because I'm using the new Mavericks features, the popups don't display on my laptop screen (they're just gone).
Not using this Mavericks feature is not an option (multiple spaces per monitor is one of the features why I upgraded).

The weird thing is that at work I have two external monitors and 1Password popups display to the left as opposed to the right and therefore the whole thing is visible in the same monitor where I'm using it.

I really love 1Password 4, but I'm disappointed this hasn't been fixed yet. This was reported almost two months ago, and it really doesn't seem like something hard to fix (just extend your menu to the opposite side of the screen edge). I was hoping 1Password 4.1 would fix it, but I see it's not the case....

    Hi @raiden00,

I do apologize for this bug, and for the time that it is taking us to fix it. Please understand that the whole team, developers included, have been putting in extra hours since the launch of 1Password 4 to ensure that it working smoothly for everyone. There were a few significant syncing related bugs that demanded immediate attention, but now that those have been squashed, our tech gurus can turn their attention to some of these annoying (but less severe) bugs.

Thanks for your patience, we'll do our best to get it sorted soon!

    Hello

    Any update on this?

This problem makes the Chrome extension basically unusable for me...
It's really annoying to have to use the main app and copy passwords back and forth from/to Chrome (basically destroys the convenience of 1Password). 1Password Mini is also completely useless for me when using my left monitor (most of the time).

Could at least somebody mention why this is a hard problem to fix?

It looks like something so trivially easy that, unless somebody explains what the issue is, it looks like nobody cares that some of us are having a pretty bad experience with the app for more than two months. It is just a matter of extending the pop up menus to the opposite side....

I've seen that the new update 4.1.2 doesn't fix this either....

Any word on whether this is an identified issue that will be dealt with?

    Hi @raiden00,

Thanks for checking in on us! I'm so sorry that we don't have this sorted out yet. I can't give you many details here, but I can tell you that this bug is high on our developers' priority list. Unfortunately it's not quite a trivially simple bug to fix, but we'll do our best to get this working for you soon.

We very much appreciate your patience here.

    Hi @Megan

    Thanks for the update.
Funny thing is that it does work perfectly fine with my hackintosh setup and two monitors (extending menus to the left, instead of to the right). It does not work with my rMBP and an external monitor attached (menus are extended towards the wrong side and are not visible).

I'd be willing to beta test an fix when you guys come up with one.

    Please keep us updated.
    Thanks.
